Position Summary

The Operations Manager for the Rotating Equipment Group is responsible for leading day-to-day operations, resource planning, execution performance, safety compliance, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement for services related to pumps, compressors, turbines, gearboxes, blowers, fans, and other rotating equipment. This role ensures the group delivers high-quality field service, repair, maintenance, installation, troubleshooting, and turnaround support while meeting business, safety, schedule, and profitability objectives.



Key Responsibilities


  • Lead, manage, and support supervisors, technicians, planners, coordinators, and support personnel within the rotating equipment group.

  • Oversee daily operations to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality execution of field service, shop repair, maintenance, outage, turnaround, and emergency response work.

  • Plan and allocate labor, equipment, tooling, materials, and subcontractor resources to meet customer commitments and operational priorities.

  • Monitor project schedules, job progress, productivity, cost performance, and quality metrics; take corrective action when performance falls below expectations.

  • Ensure all work is performed in compliance with company safety policies, customer requirements, regulatory standards, and industry best practices.

  • Partner with sales, estimating, project management, engineering, procurement, and finance teams to support proposals, job planning, execution, billing, and customer follow-up.

  • Maintain strong customer relationships by communicating clearly, resolving issues promptly, and ensuring service delivery meets or exceeds expectations.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, productivity, cost control, scheduling accuracy, and operational reliability.

  • Review job closeouts, lessons learned, nonconformance issues, rework trends, and customer feedback to improve future performance.

  • Support recruiting, onboarding, training, development, performance management, and retention of qualified rotating equipment personnel.



Operational Leadership

The Operations Manager is expected to translate business goals into practical operating plans, establish clear priorities, and create accountability across the team. This includes managing workload, balancing urgent customer needs with planned maintenance work, improving standard work processes, and ensuring supervisors and technicians have the information, tools, and support needed to perform successfully.



Required Qualifications


  • Minimum of 7–10 years of experience in rotating equipment service, industrial maintenance, field service, repair operations, or related industrial operations.

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of supervisory, operations management, project management, or team leadership experience.

  • Strong working knowledge of rotating equipment such as pumps, compressors, turbines, gearboxes, motors, blowers, fans, and associated systems.

  • Demonstrated understanding of safety programs, job hazard analysis, lockout/tagout, confined space, lifting and rigging, hot work, and customer site requirements.

  • Experience managing schedules, labor utilization, job costs, productivity, quality, and customer expectations.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, scopes of work, repair recommendations, drawings, specifications, and service reports.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, scheduling tools, ERP systems, work order systems, or other operations management platforms.

  • Experience in refinery, petrochemical, chemical, power generation, pipeline, manufacturing, or heavy industrial environments.

  • Knowledge of API, ANSI, ASME, ISO, OEM, and customer-specific rotating equipment standards.

  • Lean, Six Sigma, PMP, NCCER, safety, reliability, or maintenance-related certifications.

  • Experience supporting outage, turnaround, commissioning, startup, vibration, alignment, precision maintenance, or reliability improvement programs.

  • Safety-first leadership and strong field execution discipline.

  • Ability to lead teams in fast-paced, high-priority industrial service environments.

  • Strong communication skills with technicians, customers, vendors, and senior leadership.

  • Commercial awareness, cost control, and understanding of job profitability.

  • Problem-solving skills with the ability to make timely decisions under pressure.

  • Customer-focused mindset with a commitment to quality and responsiveness.

  • Strong planning, organization, prioritization, and follow-through.

  • Ability to coach, develop, and hold team members accountable.

  • Maintain strong safety performance and ensure compliance with all company and customer safety requirements.

  • Reduce rework, delays, downtime, and avoidable job cost overruns.

  • Develop supervisors and technicians through coaching, training, and clear performance expectations.

  • Provide timely reporting on operational performance, risks, opportunities, and resource needs.

  • Support growth of the rotating equipment service business through reliable execution and strong customer relationships.



Work Environment

This position may require work in office, shop, and customer field environments, including industrial plants, refineries, petrochemical facilities, power plants, pipeline facilities, and manufacturing sites. The role may require travel, extended hours, weekend support, and emergency response availability based on business and customer needs.
