Job summary

Transdev is seeking an Operations Manager for a proposed new business in New York, NY. The role reports to the General Manager and oversees daily operations, staffing, scheduling, safety, and budget adherence to deliver reliable transit services.

The position requires a CDL with Passenger endorsement and experience supervising transit operations, with strong communication and budget-management skills. Travel is anticipated to be under 10% outside the immediate area.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • CDL Class B with Passenger endorsement and Air brake endorsement or ability to obtain.
  • 3+ years of transit supervisory experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of transit system regulations and operations.
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, and database programs.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises daily activities of operators and coordinates supervisors and dispatch personnel.
  • Oversees scheduling of operators; monitors operations and coordinates service delivery.
  • Collaborates with maintenance to meet service requirements.
  • Tracks and analyzes performance; addresses interdepartmental issues and staff concerns.
  • Makes hiring decisions for authorized roles; evaluates staff performance.
  • Assists in accident/incident investigations and supports safety/training teams.
  • Coordinates with safety and training to meet safety goals.
  • Develops Operations budget.
  • May operate a vehicle in revenue service if needed.
  • Travel outside immediate area < 10%.

Operations Manager

NOTE: The following position is for a proposed new/future business within Transdev. Only candidates meeting the work experience requirements will be considered.

The Operations Manager reports directly to the General Manager in fulfilling daily operations, including but not limited to route supervision, staff and operator supervision, effective communication with internal and external customers, coaching employees for optimal performance, managing the entire operation in the absence of the General Manager, complying with all Company policies, and managing the operation within the budgetary plan for the location. This position is based in New York, NY.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervises daily activities of all operators and coordinates the activities of supervisors and dispatch personnel.
  • Oversees scheduling of operators; monitors operations and coordinates delivery of service with superiors.
  • Works closely with the maintenance department to ensure that all operational service requirements are met.
  • Tracks, compile and analyzes performance; handles interdepartmental issues; resolves employee issues and grievances; improves processes and route scheduling.
  • Makes hiring decisions for authorized roles; evaluates the work performance of staff; ensures the timely and efficient completion of all assigned tasks.
  • Assists in accident/incident investigation, including any needed on-site assistance and support to safety and training personnel.
  • Coordinates with the safety and training department to ensure all safety goals and directives are met.
  • Develops Operations department budget.
  • May operate a vehicle in revenue service, if necessary.
  • Other duties as required.
  • Travel requirement outside of immediate area: <10%
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent, such as GED, required
  • Class B or higher Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger endorsement and Air brake endorsement required or the ability to obtain one
  • 3 or more years of relevant transit supervisory experience required
  • Thorough knowledge of transit system regulations and operations.
  • Working knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Exce,l and relevant database programs
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to organize and perform work efficiently; strong attention to details
  • Ability to work effectively with labor; may include labor grievances and negotiations
  • Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed.
