Job summary

Amsted Rail in Keokuk, IA is seeking a Manufacturing Supervisor to assist the General Manager in planning, organizing and directing operations for producing quality pressure poured steel freight car and locomotive wheels.

You will lead hourly teams, ensure safety, manage costs, mentor staff, and drive continuous improvement while maintaining budget targets. This role emphasizes leadership, accountability and the ability to adapt in a fast-paced foundry environment.

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE

Assists the General Manager in planning, organizing and directing the manufacturing operations with optimum cost-effectiveness, assuring the timely and safe production of quality pressure poured steel freight car and locomotive wheels to meet sales requirements. This position requires a broad background and understanding of the manufacturing process, plus the supervisory skills necessary to direct a work force of hourly employees.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Responsible for compliance to quality standards and productivity/WIP objectives.
• Responsible for ensuring safe workplace conditions within established safety policies and procedures.
• Responsible for maintaining operation within cost and budget restrictions and ensure continuous improvements.
• Assist the General Manager to plan, organize and direct the manufacturing facility and act on their behalf in their absence.
• Plan and schedule manpower requirements to meet labor objectives.
• Handle employee issues (either formal or informal) to promote good employee relations and equitable solutions for the Company.
• Select, develop and motivate a competent supervisory staff to assure a safe, efficient, cost effective production operation.

JOB KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business, or related field or; minimum of 10 years of foundry manufacturing experience in lieu of a degree.
• Demonstrated leadership experience with a proven ability to lead teams, drive operational performance, develop employees and foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Experience making high-impact decisions in fast-paced environment.
• Experience utilizing computer programs and Microsoft Office products.
• Possesses strong communication, process and financial acumen.
• Grows and mentors talent.
• Possesses strong change management skills.
