Job summary

Bodycote in Berlin, CT is seeking an Operations Manager responsible for the overall facility operations, under the direction of the General Manager. The role focuses on safety, efficiency, and strategic execution across production, maintenance, and staffing.

The position requires leadership of the management team, adherence to budgets, and collaboration with Sales and Customer Service to meet customer needs while maintaining quality and safety standards.

Qualifications

• ITAR compliance required; candidates must be U.S. Citizens or Permanent Resident Card Holder.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in operations, management, finance, metallurgy, quality, safety, and environmental management.
• Thorough knowledge of heat treat processes, straightening and forming.
• Minimum of three years business management experience.
• Two or more year’s supervisory experience.
• Must be effective in promoting and maintaining positive employee relations and have basic understanding of company rules, procedures, benefits and pay policies as related to production employees.
• Must demonstrate the ability to read, write and communicate the English language.
• Knowledge and hands on experience of computer applications including Microsoft Office and databases is required.

Responsibilities

• Lead the facility operations and ensure alignment with the budget and cost controls.
• Direct the leadership team and set priorities for daily equipment maintenance and staffing.
• Oversee sales activities, quotes, pricing, and market penetration; ensure follow-through on customer orders.
• Manage the financial functions: invoicing, purchasing, capital expenditures and payroll.
• Enforce safety program, maintain safe work habits, and ensure compliance with company policies.

Position Summary

Based in Berlin, CT the Operations Manager has the responsibility for the overall operation of the facility, which includes all aspects of day to day operations, under the direction of the General Manager.

Essential Job Functions (Duties and Responsibilities)

• Must have a detailed working knowledge of the BMS program.
• Leadership of facility.
• Utilize equipment great than 85% based on 168/week.
• Must maintain operating cost to budget.
• Participate in the development and execution of a two year strategic plan.
• Participate in sales effort, quoting, pricing, and market penetration, assuring follow through on customer orders.
• Directs activities of leadership team, sets priorities for day to day equipment maintenance, and maintains appropriate production staffing as needed to meet company goals.
• Responsible for financial aspects of the operation to include sales (invoices, credits and collections), purchasing (ordering, invoice approval), capital expenditure requirements and payroll.
• Responsible for shop production schedules and conducts production meetings including supervisors’ meetings working closely with the Customer Service and Sales personnel.
• Ensures customers’ needs are appropriately met by shipping to schedule with minimum turnaround time and a high degree of quality, working closely with the Quality Manager.
• Directs maintenance activities in regard to shop equipment, instrumentation, facilities and personnel.
• Responsible for enforcing company handbook and communicates with Office Manager and/or Regional Human Resources on matters relating to discipline.
• Responsible for ensuring the safe operation of equipment, safe work habits of the employees and administering the safety program within the guidelines established by the company.
• Must have the ability to report for work on time, follow directions, interact effectively with co-workers, understand and follow rules and procedures and accept constructive criticism.
• May have access to compensation information of other employees or applicants in this role and as such cannot disclose the pay of other employees or applicants to other individuals.
• This position is responsible for the financial function of the business and as such will perform duties in a fiscally responsible manner.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• May be exposed to heat, fumes, noise, and humidity, etc.
• Must have the cognitive and mental capacity to perform essential job functions.
