Job summary

Qualifications

  • ITAR compliance required; candidates must be U.S. Citizens or Permanent Resident Card Holder.
  • Four-year college degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology or related discipline.
  • Five+ years supervisory experience in a maintenance role.
  • Ten+ years cumulative maintenance experience in an industrial setting.
  • Deep knowledge of industrial manufacturing systems and heavy-duty piping/plumbing.
  • Experience with cooling water systems and water treatment.
  • Experience with cryogenics and high-pressure gas systems.
  • Basic electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Basic hydraulic troubleshooting skills.
  • Computer proficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises maintenance and installation of equipment used in thermal processing.
  • Monitors health, safety and environmental performance in the department.
  • Resolves chronic or acute equipment issues.
  • Directs contracted personnel for specialized maintenance or supplemental work.
  • Monitors and schedules skills training for staff.
  • Coordinates daily and monthly maintenance and plant shutdowns with operations.
  • Uses CMMS for work orders, asset data and preventive maintenance.

Position Summary: Based in Berlin and South Windsor, CT the Maintenance Manager will perform essential job functions associate with heat treatment under the direction of the General Managers to meet customer specifications including assisting other employees as needed at both our Berlin and South Windsor, CT locations.
The Maintenance Manager position leads and manages the mechanical maintenance department. This role will be the Subject Matter Expert for the repairs and maintenance of mechanical process equipment and will provide daily maintenance support and capital project support by providing direction and instruction as needed. This role will manage contractors for maintenance and project work, and will be responsible for assessing plant capital equipment needs and managing the CapEx budget. This role will advise and instruct maintenance technicians with proper procedures for repairing equipment, track maintenance via the work order system including a PM program for all equipment, manage the parts stockroom, order parts as necessary, and create, edit, or revise Engineering drawings for some plant equipment.
Essential Job Functions (Duties and Responsibilities): The primary duties consist of, but are not limited to the following.

  • Supervises employees who perform maintenance and install equipment used in thermal processing applications.
  • May have access to compensation information of other employees or applicants in this role and as such cannot disclose the pay of other employees or applicants to other individuals.
  • Monitors, reinforces and oversees health, safety and environmental (EHS) performance of department and employees.
  • Resolves chronic or acute equipment issues.
  • Identifies, selects, assigns and supervises contract personnel who perform specialized maintenance work or who supplement department work.
  • Monitors progress of employees in terms of skills training and identifies/assigns specific training as required.
  • Directs the scheduling of daily and monthly routine and preventive maintenance activities as well as working with operations department to determine scheduling of equipment that requires shutdown.
  • Utilizes the computerized maintenance management software (CMMS) for maintenance work order management, documenting equipment information and managing preventive maintenance requirements.
  • Creates, edits or revises less complex engineering drawings using computer aided engineering software.
  • Works closely with equipment vendors and suppliers on identifying and ordering specialty equipment or parts, and objectively reviewing vendor or supplier performance in terms of service quality and timely response.
  • Evaluates and gives performance feedback both informally and through the use of the formal performance management system.
  • Manages capital projects by initiating Capital Asset Requests, initiating purchasing requests for CapEx project related items, and supervising installation and project milestones and timing.
  • Maintains a high degree of fiscal budget responsibility for the plant and department through organized management of purchase orders and competitive supplier bidding.
  • Owns the assessment of facility conditions and initiates facility repair and/or maintenance activities.
  • Maintains argon and nitrogen gas inventories and paper work with every delivery
  • Prepares month-end reporting, and updates facility maintenance and Environmental Management System KPIs
  • This position is responsible for the care and treatment of our customer’s inventory and as such will perform duties in a safe and responsible manner to prevent customer loss or damage.

Physical & Mental Demands: The following physical and mental demands consist of, but are not limited to the following.
  • Must be able to work in a sitting/standing position for extended periods of time in an industrial environment
  • Manual dexterity to perform data entry functions
  • Ability to bend, pull, stoop and reach to perform functions
  • Ability to lift up to 35lbs
  • May be exposed to heat, cold, noise, dust, humidity, fumes, argon and nitrogen gas lines and valve panels (high pressure), and chemical solvents
  • May be required to work overtime or any shifts, including weekends
  • Must have the cognitive and mental capacity to perform essential job functions
  • Must be self-directed individual capable of multi-purpose activities
  • Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Visual acuity to read documents, computer screens, files, etc.
