Job summary

TMC Transportation, the nation’s largest employee-owned open deck transportation company, invites you to join our Columbia, SC office as an Operations Manager. The role focuses on managing all personnel within operations and sustaining efficient freight movement.

You will monitor daily reports, coach fleet managers and drivers, review load assignments, promote safety, and participate in continuous improvement teams.

• Fluent in computer applications and keyboard proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and track daily reports.
• Conduct annual performance reviews of fleet managers.
• Review load assignments to ensure driver work is appropriate.
• Notify Customer Service of issues affecting expectations or loads.
• Promote safety across operations and dispatch loads per drivers’ hours.
• Coach and develop personnel, including fleet managers and drivers.
• Resolve driver conflicts regarding hometime, pay, equipment, and loads.

TMC Transportation has an immediate full-time opening for an Operations Manager working out of our office in Columbia, SC.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The primary function of an Operations Manager is to manage all personnel within operations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Monitor and track daily reports.
• Complete annual performance reviews of fleet managers.
• Review load assignments from Customer Service and review to ensure the appropriateness of such driver work assignments.
• Notify the Customer Service department of issues/changes that might impact customer expectations or affect load assignments.
• Promote safety throughout all areas of operations, including the dispatching of loads in accordance with the drivers hours of availability.
• Focus on driver retention by understanding driver requirements/preferences, by monitoring driver performance to ensure driver requirements are being met, and by keeping drivers informed and motivated.
• Participate in Quality Teams by conducting driver route and hold meetings.
• Coaching and development of personnel. Including fleet managers and drivers
• Resolve driver conflicts, problems, and requests with respect to matters such as, hometime, pay equipment, and load assignments.
• Ensure awareness of and enforce company policies.
• Ensure the operations remain a productive center by monitoring these processes and keep freight moving by repowers or dispatched when necessary.
• Maintain records pertaining to driver performance and productivity.
• Maintain records of the fleet manager’s performance, productivity and policies.
• Participate as an active member in Quality teams and attend company meetings, as necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

• Four-year degree, preferably in Transportation and Logistics, and/or relevant experience in transportation or related field.
• Fluent in computer applications and keyboard proficiency.
• Ability to function in a fast-paced work environment and tolerate stress.
• Ability to plan and organize, attention to detail, problem-solving skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
