Operations Management Program
Your main responsibilities
  • Participate in a 12‑month structured development experience combining formal training with immersive field exposure.
  • Work closely with Area, Territory, and local leadership, including a dedicated mentor, to learn how to effectively manage the maintenance and repair of elevators, escalators, and moving walks.
  • Attend in‑person training, eLearning modules, and cohort‑based sessions covering safety, product knowledge, resource planning, leadership, technician development, and financial acumen.
  • Complete a three‑phase program: orientation, technical field immersion, and supervision, quality and compliance.
  • Upon completion, be prepared to relocate to other locations within the local territory if a full‑time Field Superintendent position is not available at the host training location.
Phase Overview and Descriptions
  • Phase 1 – Orientation and Introduction to Schindler (approx. 3 months):
    • Attend in‑person program kickoff and orientation at US Headquarters in Morristown, NJ.
    • Participate in the “EI Deliver” eLearning training program for an overall understanding of the service business.
    • Gain visibility into leadership through the “New Leader Voyage” program.
    • Understand the basics of the Field Superintendent role and its fit within Schindler’s departments.
    • Conduct ride‑along experiences with local Superintendents to interact with technicians onsite.
  • Phase 2 – Technical Field Immersion (approx. 3 months):
    • Use a temporary union card to work under an Elevator Union Mechanic.
    • Assist with elevator and/or escalator service/repair or installations based on business line.
    • Improve practical knowledge of safety procedures, hazard recognition, and PPE utilization.
  • Phase 3 – Supervision, Quality and Compliance (approx. 6 months):
    • Job shadow the local area Field Quality Excellence team to learn their functions.
    • Acquire knowledge on auditing, testing, installation, and maintenance safety and code compliance.
    • Manage a limited workforce in a controlled local environment for hands‑on management experience.
    • Receive performance evaluations from Branch & Area management.
    • Ask placement opportunities upon graduation based on local, territory, or national vacancies.
What you bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or another relevant field (preferred).
  • Candidate must be open to relocation to select cities upon completion of the program.
  • Previous military or other leadership experience highly desirable.
  • Prior work experience or internships in construction, service/maintenance or related industry (a plus).
  • Strong customer service, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Affinity for understanding technical/mechanical systems.
