Job summary

There are currently two (2) openings for the Operations & Maintenance Technician I – Coater located at Gene Camp (Parker Dam, CA).

This role develops foundational expertise in industrial surface preparation and protective coating applications. The position actively supports the maintenance of Metropolitan assets, equipment, and facilities. Key duties include assisting with substrate preparation and applying protective coatings to critical water utility infrastructure—such as valves, pipelines, feeders, and gates—to mitigate corrosion and wear. The technician works across a variety of materials, including metals, concrete, wood, polymers, and contemporary composites. By ensuring high-quality, advanced coating execution within treatment plants, conveyance facilities, and maintenance shops, this role directly supports the operational core of water and power reliability.

What You’ll Do
  • Assists with preparing and applying coating applications to protect a wide variety of water utility systems, assets, equipment and appurtenances including valves, pipelines, feeders, gates, substructures and related water delivery assets prone to corrosion and wear.
  • Assists with protecting and improving a variety of structures and assets composed of various metals, concrete, wood or polymers.
  • Support the core of water and power reliability by assisting in maintaining, stabilizing, or improving the quality of equipment within conveyance and distribution facilities, shops and other occupied and unoccupied structures.
  • Assist with industrial surface preparation and performing spray, wipe, brush, roll, trowel, or dip application of specialized industrial coating materials to valves, pipes, and related equipment.
  • Follow regulatory and environmental code practices.

Schedule:

Modified 4/10 - (Week 1 Monday - Thursday 6:00am - 4:30pm) (Week 2 Tuesday - Friday 6:00am - 4:30pm)

Employment Standards Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience: High school diploma or high school equivalency certificate in addition to minimal experience with hand tools and power tools associated with industrial coating applications.

Certifications, Licenses, And Registration Requirements

License(s): Valid California Class C Driver’s License or equivalent (required at time of application) that allows you to drive during your employment.
