Job summary

City of Durham is seeking an Operations Logistics Specialist to ensure Crisis Response Teams are stocked, equipped, and mission-ready. You will manage inventory, receive supplies, coordinate monthly orders, and maintain organized storage areas while supporting fleet logistics.

The role requires at least 1 year in inventory/procurement, a valid NC license or willingness to obtain, and the ability to lift heavy loads and work in a fast-paced public-safety environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1 year of inventory and procurement experience.
• Valid NC driver’s license or willingness to obtain within 60 days of hire.
• Ability to lift up to 100 lbs and walk/stand for most shifts.
• Experience with inventory/asset management systems.

Hiring Range: $52,206-$64,766

Hours/Schedule: Temporary, Monday-Friday 6am-2pm, 40 hours per week.

In 2025, DCSD has added a new division focused on Stabilization Services. This expansion represents an exciting new phase in DCSD’s development—and a thrilling opportunity to pair alternative response programs with stabilization services that can better support Neighbors.

The Operations Logistics Specialist role serves as a critical behind-the-scenes function that ensures DCSD's Crisis Response Teams (CRT) have the supplies, equipment, and resources needed to effectively serve the community. This position is responsible for managing inventory, preparing response vehicles, assembling neighbor support kits, coordinating supply orders, maintaining organized storage areas, and assisting with fleet logistics. By keeping frontline teams equipped and operational, this role directly supports DCSD's mission to provide timely, compassionate, and high-quality crisis response services.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily stocking and preparation of CRT vehicles prior to their shift
• Receiving and stocking shipments of crisis care supplies
• Assisting with coordination of monthly supply orders
• Regular storeroom inventory counts
• Consistent interaction and management of departmental inventory tracking software to ensure accurate data collection
• Assembly and preparation of supply kits for distribution in the community by responder teams
• Clothing preparation and organization to ensure readiness for distribution by teams
• Daily stocking of crisis responder supply areas
• Assisting with fleet management tasks for maintenance and cleaning
• Serves as redundancy support for other operational needs

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED, HiSET, TASC)
• At least 1 year of relevant experience in inventory and procurement work. This includes maintaining inventory, receiving and organizing supplies, procuring supplies, processing financial transactions, and liaising with vendors
• A valid, unrestricted, North Carolina driver's license "or" if another state driver's license, be willing to obtain a valid NC driver's license within 60 days of hire
• Ability to drive a vehicle safely under various weather conditions
• Must be able to travel to and from worksite and other locations within Durham
• Must be able to walk/stand up to 90% of any assigned shift
• Must be able to lift over 100 lbs. occasionally, 50-100 lbs. frequently, or up to 20-50 lbs constantly.
• Highly organized and detail oriented with ability to anticipate needs and priorities
• Ability to remain flexible in a fast-paced environment, with willingness to take initiative and solve problems impacting operations
• Experience with inventory and asset management information system
• Working in operations and logistics in a public safety environment
• Experience with receiving and inventorying supplies
• Experience in supporting crisis response teams
