Job description

Operations Improvement Manager

Full Time Coppell, TX, US

7 days ago Requisition ID: 2938

The Operations Improvement Manager is our field-facing performance engine. You will partner with Regional Vice Presidents, General Managers, and Operations Managers to diagnose productivity gaps, standardize best practices, and deliver measurable gains in safety, labor efficiency, route density, and margin. You will also help newly acquired companies reach Ecowaste operating standards quickly. This is a hands‑on role: you will spend as much time in trucks, yards, and transfer stations as you do in spreadsheets.

The ideal candidate can comfortably commute to our Coppell, Texas office or is willing to relocate.

Success Objectives
Daily
  • Review the prior day's route, labor, overtime, downtime, road calls and door traffic along with disposal metrics and flag outliers.
  • Monitor service indicators (MPU’s, RMPU’s, Open work orders, DVIR completion, driver scorecards) and escalate concerns to the local GM the same day.
  • Support one or more field leaders on active improvement plans: disposal and route optimizations, ride‑alongs, route observations, dispatch reviews, or yard audits.
  • Log findings, actions, and owners in the improvement tracker so nothing lives only in email.
  • Publish a concise KPI scorecard for each assigned market: labor cost per route, stops per hour, revenue per truck, overtime %, missed pickups, and disposal cost per ton.
  • Lead a structured operating review with each active site to confirm action items, owners, and due dates.
  • Complete at least two on‑site route or facility audits and deliver written recommendations within 48 hours.
  • Meet with the COO and RVPs to report progress, blockers, and the next highest-value opportunities.
  • Coach Operations Managers and supervisors on data‑driven routing, dispatch discipline, and root‑cause investigation of incidents and service failures.
Monthly
  • Deliver a monthly improvement report to executive leadership quantifying realized savings, margin impact, and safety trends versus budget and prior period.
  • Complete a full route optimization or labor‑planning review for at least one market and implement approved changes.
  • Run post‑acquisition integration reviews for recent tuck‑ins, comparing performance to Ecowaste benchmarks and the acquisition pro forma.
  • Benchmark all operating companies against one another, identify the top and bottom quartile, and transfer best practices from leaders to laggards.
  • Update and publish standard operating procedures (SOPs), checklists, and training materials based on what is working in the field.
  • Partner with Finance/FP&A to reconcile operational improvements to P&L results and refine forecast assumptions.
First 90 Days
  • Days 1 to 30: Visit priority operating companies, learn our systems and data sources, and baseline current KPIs.
  • Days 31 to 60: Launch improvement plans in two to three markets with defined targets and owners.
  • Days 61 to 90: Present the first results, a prioritized multi‑market roadmap, and a repeatable improvement playbook.
Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze productivity, profitability, and labor data to identify and quantify improvement opportunities.
  • Design and implement continuous improvement plans using Lean and Six Sigma tools where appropriate.
  • Optimize routing, dispatch, and container/asset utilization in collection, roll‑off, and transfer operations.
  • Standardize processes and KPIs across a decentralized network while respecting local market realities.
  • Support acquisition integration, including operating assessments and post‑close performance tracking.
  • Reinforce safety and DOT compliance through audits, coaching, and corrective action follow‑through.
  • Evaluate and help deploy operational technology such as routing, telematics, and dashboards.
PAY & BENEFITS
  • Weekly pay!
  • Multiple health plans available, including a tax‑advantaged HSA option.
  • Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance.
  • Retirement Plan with a company match up to 5%.
  • Safety and Retention Incentives!
  • Paid Time Off.
  • Access to employee discounts through LifeMart!
