ISO New England is the independent system operator responsible for ensuring the safe and reliable flow of electricity in our region and planning for the future of the electric grid. We are at the forefront of New England’s ongoing transition to clean energy.

The Operations Forecast Analyst supports the production load forecast models used by on-watch Forecasters to produce the New England load forecast for all time horizons up to 21 days from the current day. This role is critical in ensuring forecast accuracy by evaluating model performance, troubleshooting issues, retraining models as needed, and recommending fundamental changes to load modelers and external vendors. The analyst also leads initiatives to modernize and enhance forecasting processes, collaborating with project teams to improve software and processes, designing, developing, implementing, testing new tools and methods, and delivering training. Success requires technical expertise, project management skills, and strong interpersonal skills to guide projects from concept to deployment.

What we offer you:

  • Hybrid work schedule with 3 days/week onsite
  • Base salary plus bonus, professional development, tuition reimbursement, enhanced 401k, wellness programs, flexible hours, access to networks, and more in a supportive environment!

How you will make an impact:

  • Build and deliver a prototype for probabilistic weather and load forecasting:
    • Work with weather vendors and load modelers to incorporate load models into probabilistic space.
    • Lead the project to transition System Operations load forecasting capabilities to next-generation tools.
Regular maintenance of existing load models and forecasting tools
  • Monitor accuracy, troubleshoot, retrain models, and coordinate with IT for testing and deployment.
  • Anticipate and address model accuracy degradation due to load pattern changes.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Operations Forecasting and load modelers for new model development and techniques.
  • Coordination with Vendors of Solar (PV) and Wind Power Forecast Services:
    • Monitor forecast accuracy and performance.
    • Coordinate with vendors to address issues, refine definitions of accuracy, and troubleshoot forecast problems.
Seasonal Analysis and Reporting
  • Support winter/summer outlook assessments, interstate gas pipeline capacity assessments, and readiness seminars.

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Mathematics, or related fields (Applied Statistics, Economics, Data Science) preferred.
  • Familiarity with electric power system operations and demand forecasting concepts.
  • Knowledge of forecasting algorithms.
  • Understanding of factors impacting wind, solar generation, and weather in load models.
  • Experience with probabilistic assessments of variable supply and demand.
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships across teams, other ISOs/RTOs, and working groups.

Preferred but not required:

  • Experience with ISO New England Markets, including Real-Time Energy Markets settlement.

This is a U.S.-based role. Relocation is required if the candidate resides outside the U.S.
