JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision of the Operations & Maintenance Manager, the Operations Engineer provides technical support for the operation, maintenance, repair, optimization, and reliability of energy generation and electrical infrastructure assets. Responsibilities include engineering support related to equipment inspection, performance improvement, operational efficiency, maintenance planning, compliance, monitoring, commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, and asset management. The Operations Engineer supports power generation and energy delivery systems, including electrical equipment, substations, transformers, switchgear, protection systems, instrumentation, communications networks, control systems, and metering infrastructure while performing other duties and assignments as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provides engineering support for power generation and energy infrastructure assets to ensure safe, reliable, efficient, and environmentally compliant operations, including the identification of operational issues and development of corrective action plans.
- Monitors asset performance and analyzes operational data to identify trends, equipment underperformance, potential failures, and opportunities for optimization.
- Monitors SCADA and control systems, responds to alarms, and coordinates communications with field personnel, contractors, utilities, and other stakeholders.
- Assists in developing, implementing, and maintaining operational procedures, policies, and protocols.
- Supports regulatory compliance activities and interfaces with utilities, transmission operators, reliability organizations, and other industry stakeholders as required.
- Provides technical support for troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and equipment reliability initiatives.
- Prepares daily, weekly, monthly, and ad hoc operational reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Performs engineering analyses and develops recommendations to improve reliability, system efficiency, operational performance, and safety.
- Conducts inspections and testing of electrical and mechanical equipment to evaluate condition, identify deficiencies, and support improvement initiatives.
- May supervise contractors, technicians, or other personnel involved in operations and maintenance activities.
- Maintains awareness of industry trends, emerging technologies, best practices, and operational improvements within the energy sector.
- Supports compliance with safety, environmental, and health regulations and company policies.
- Assists in developing technical specifications and scopes of work for maintenance, repairs, upgrades, and capital improvement projects.
- Compiles operational data and prepares reports required for regulatory, compliance, and corporate reporting purposes.
- Participates in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing operational performance and reliability.
- Responds to emergency situations and outage events as required.
- Ensures all operations and maintenance activities comply with manufacturer recommendations, industry standards, and warranty requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Experience in power generation, energy infrastructure, utilities, industrial operations, or related fields preferred.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to operating facilities as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of electrical power systems, energy infrastructure, generation assets, and industrial equipment operations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate technical issues and develop practical solutions.
- Ability to conduct technical research, engineering analyses, and performance assessments.
- Ability to read, interpret, and develop technical drawings, specifications, schematics, datasheets, and work instructions.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and Project.
- Experience coordinating with contractors, consultants, suppliers, and service providers.
- Ability to analyze large datasets and compile technical information to support business decisions.
- Strong mathematical, analytical, and statistical capabilities.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across all levels of the organization and with external stakeholders.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to travel on short notice and work outside normal business hours when operational needs require.
