You will support continuous improvement of equipment performance, reliability, and plant processes while providing regulatory compliance support under the Plant Manager's direction.

Qualifications

BS in engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
10+ years in power plant operations, maintenance, or engineering.
Experience with gas/steam turbines, generators, transformers, and protection and control systems.
Familiarity with NERC Reliability Standards and compliance documentation.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and project coordination skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication in English.

A Snapshot of Your Day

Under the general direction of the Plant Manager and in coordination with the Operations & Maintenance Managers, the Plant Engineer serves as the site's technical engineering specialist. The position supports continuous improvement of equipment performance, reliability, efficiency, and plant processes while providing technical support for applicable NERC and other regulatory compliance activities. The Plant Engineer independently analyzes equipment changes, failures, testing activities, operating data, and performance trends; identifies potential reliability or compliance impacts; and develops or recommends corrective actions within established policies and delegated authority. This is a technical engineering and compliance support role and does not directly manage Operations or Maintenance personnel. Final regulatory applicability determinations, formal external submissions and communications, and commercial PJM mar-ket functions remain with the designated management, owner, corporate compliance, or Energy Manager organizations.

How You’ll Make An Impact

Provide technical support, assistance, and evaluation when operating, maintenance, performance, or reliability problems occur; facilitate timely resolution and improved plant operation.
Analyze plant performance, availability, reliability, equipment condition, and operating data; prepare calculations and trend reviews; and recommend actions that improve efficiency, output, and long-term equipment performance.
Review proposed plant changes, modifications, and projects - including generators, GSUs, protective relays, AVR/excitation systems, governors, DCS/PLC logic, and related settings - for technical adequacy and potential NERC or regulatory impacts.
Coordinate and support implementation of applicable NERC Reliability Standards and associated compliance programs, and serve as a site technical compliance resource for Operations and Maintenance personnel.
Maintain compliance evidence, technical records, settings, test reports, calculations, maintenance documentation, operating data, OEM/vendor reports, and other supporting documentation in accordance with applicable retention requirements.
Support preparation, technical review, validation, and timely submission of regulatory reports, questionnaires, certifications, and data requests to NERC, Reliability First, PJM, FERC, and other applicable organizations, including GADS/eGADS outage and derate data.
Coordinate site activities for compliance monitoring engagements, spot checks, self-certifications, audits, data requests, and regulatory inquiries; track obligations, corrective actions, mitigation plans, and due dates through completion.
Support development, review, and periodic revision of operating procedures, maintenance procedures, compliance documentation, routine maintenance scopes and schedules, and plant standards; periodically review records and activities for consistency with OEM and regulatory requirements.
Participate in event evaluations, root cause analyses, mis operation investigations, disturbance reviews, and technical re-views of trips, derates, protection operations, and equipment failures; identify reliability impacts and recommend corrective actions.
Support generator model validation, MOD-025/026/027 activities, applicable PRC testing or studies, equipment performance testing, maintenance documentation, and technical data verification; coordinate as needed with OEMs, vendors, consultants, and engineering organizations.
Conduct periodic assessments of compliance evidence, records, and site programs to support continuous improvement and audit readiness and maintain awareness of emerging regulatory requirements and industry guidance affecting Generator Owner and Generator Operator responsibilities.
Coordinate with Operations, Maintenance, Asset Management, owner representatives, and Corporate Compliance to ensure accurate and timely completion of technical and compliance activities without duplicating assigned management responsibilities.
Communicate plant conditions, technical findings, risks, and improvement recommendations to management and plant personnel; prepare and lead technical, system, procedure, or compliance training when assigned.
Support compliance with applicable safety, environmental, and NERC requirements within the position's assigned technical scope; follow all related policies and procedures and promote safe work practices and plant housekeeping through personal conduct.
Complete required training and qualifications, follow company policies and expectations, and perform other duties as assigned.

What You Bring

Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience required. Minimum of seven (10) years of power plant operations, maintenance, or engineering experience.
Demonstrated proficiency in electrical, instrumentation and control, mechanical, and power generation systems; planned and corrective maintenance; thermodynamics; estimating and budgeting; and technical administration.
Gas turbine, steam turbine, generator, transformer, protection and control, and Distributed Control System (DCS)/PLC experience required, including familiarity with protective relays, AVR/excitation systems, governors, and plant control logic.
Demonstrated knowledge of power plant operations and maintenance, operating procedures, system operating orders, clearance and Lockout/Tagout procedures, and P&IDs.
Working knowledge of NERC Reliability Standards applicable to Generator Owner and Generator Operator functions, compliance evidence and retention practices, audit support, technical testing, and regulatory data validation preferred. Strong analytical, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, technical writing, organization, and project coordination skills; ability to evaluate complex issues, prioritize work, and develop practical recommendations.
Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills; ability to coordinate cross-functional work, provide technical direction within assigned authority, and prepare and deliver training. Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English.
Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Projects, and other applicable plant, maintenance, data, and compliance applications. Must be able to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime and, when required, holidays, nights, weekends, or shift assignments.
