Job description

The Boring Company was founded to solve the problem of soul‑destroying traffic by creating an underground network of tunnels. Today, we are creating the technology to increase tunneling speed and decrease costs by a factor of 10 or more with the ultimate goal of making Hyperloop adoption viable and enabling rapid transit across densely populated regions.

The Boring Company is seeking a highly motivated Field Operations Engineer to support tunneling operations in Las Vegas through complete ownership of one or more assigned production‑critical subsystems, such as the belt/conveyor system, grout system, mining trucks, or other machine and support equipment.

This role is accountable for keeping assigned subsystems reliable, maintainable, and available for production. The Field Operations Engineer will own subsystem performance, condition, failure modes, maintenance needs, spares and consumables, procedures, reporting, and improvement opportunities while working directly in the field to troubleshoot issues, support maintenance, drive equipment improvements, and minimize downtime.

  • Keep assigned subsystems reliable, maintainable, and available for production through field troubleshooting, maintenance support, inspections, and performance monitoring.
  • Identify failure modes, recurring issues, maintenance needs, and improvement opportunities; develop and implement solutions that reduce downtime and improve operational performance.
  • Own subsystem documentation, including procedures, inspection standards, maintenance plans, issue reports, performance tracking, and technical updates.
  • Coordinate with field teams, maintenance, engineering, project management, supply chain, vendors and suppliers to resolve issues, manage spares and consumables, and support system upgrades.
  • Ensure subsystem work is executed safely and in compliance with applicable site, construction, and tunneling safety requirements.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, robotics, mechatronics, production engineering, manufacturing, logistics, integration engineering, project management, or a related field.
  • Experience in field operations, construction, infrastructure, manufacturing, mining, tunneling, logistics, or another fast‑paced operations environment.
  • Strong technical problem‑solving skills with hands‑on experience troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, controls, robotic, or heavy equipment systems.
  • Ability to analyze operational data, identify trends, prioritize issues, and drive practical improvements in a production environment.
  • Willingness to work long hours in the field, including significant time in the tunnel, with strong communication skills and the ability to coordinate across multiple teams.
