Job summary

Job Summary:

The Operations Manager is responsible for the coordinated oversight and execution of daily guest-facing operations across Visitor Services, Play Building, and the Museum Store. This role ensures operational consistency, high-quality guest experience, and adherence to all organizational policies, procedures, and safety standards. Working within established staffing models, budgets, and organizational priorities, the Operations Manager actively monitors real-time operations, adjusts workflows as needed, and ensures appropriate staff deployment. This position plays a key role in bridging frontline execution with leadership strategy by providing direction, support, and accountability to operational teams.

The Operations Manager directly supervises assigned staff and provides indirect oversight to frontline team members through coaching, guidance, and operational leadership. The role may assume frontline responsibilities as needed to maintain safety, service continuity, and operational standards. This position requires sound judgment, decision-making within defined authority, and the ability to resolve complex or high-risk issues appropriately. Leadership retains discretion to modify duties within the reasonable scope of the role, consistent with business needs and applicable law.

  • Providing direct reports: Group Experiences Coordinator & Operations Engagement Lead with day-to-day guidance in alignment with museum standards, policies, and operational goals.
  • Overseeing and approving staff scheduling to ensure appropriate coverage across all operational areas while adhering to approved labor budgets and staffing models.
  • Ensuring operational readiness for all operational areas to include Visitor Services, Play Building, Museum Store, Group Visits and Birthday Operations.
  • Participating in performance management processes, including coaching, policy enforcement documentation, and corrective action, in partnership with Human Resources.
  • Maintaining accountability for overall operational readiness and escalating issues that exceed scope, authority, or risk tolerance to the next level of leadership.
  • Partner with other department leaders on higher-level decision-making, programs and events.
Responsibilities and Duties
  • Promote and uphold LCM’s mission, culture, values, and brand in all interactions with staff, volunteers, guests, and the community.
  • Project a positive and professional image of the organization at all times.
  • Support the consistent delivery of a high‑quality visitor experience through effective day‑to‑day operational execution across all guests‑facing areas.
  • Implement and follow established operational systems, procedures, and practices to ensure smooth, safe, and efficient museum operations.
  • Foster an environment that delivers excellent customer service and supports membership engagement, retention, and repeat visitation.
  • Monitor daily museum operations and identify operational issues, trends, or inefficiencies; recommend improvements within established guidelines and elevate as appropriate.
  • Support LCM’s commitment to diversity, accessibility, and inclusion by ensuring all guests feel respected, welcomed, and safe.
  • Support the museum’s strategic objectives by ensuring operational readiness and consistency across all visitor experiences.
  • Partner with the Education Department to support the operational planning, staffing readiness, and scheduling needs of weekly and monthly programming.
  • Attend education meetings as needed to maintain awareness of program operations, exhibit usage, and support requirements.
  • Assist education staff by supporting the operational delivery of programs to ensure experiences are facilitated safely, accessible, and in alignment with established standards.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of education program operations to provide coverage, troubleshooting, or operational support when needed.
  • Consistently monitor floor operations to ensure guest flow, staff coverage, and safety expectations are met.
  • Coordinate with Facilities, Maintenance, and other Museum Leadership to monitor exhibit functionality and safety concerns and elevate issues as appropriate.
  • Support the Group Experience team by assisting with operational improvements related to birthday parties and group visit experiences.
  • Support Play Building, Visitor Services, and Museum Store teams in identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency and guest flow, within approved procedures and authority.
  • Perform basic POS troubleshooting and reporting as needed and communicate operational issues or trends to Finance and Operations leadership.
  • Perform additional duties consistent with the scope of the role as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s Degree with a minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience (equivalent relevant work experience may be substituted for education)
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, communication, organizational, analytical, multitasking, problem-solving, decision-making skills and time management.
  • Proficient in MS Office 365 Suite
  • Knowledge of Muse is a plus
  • Knowledge of ADP is a plus
