Operations Electrical Engineer (Launch Team Training model & simulation engineer)

Overview

The COMET contract provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA\'s Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. These tasks will support the ISS, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services programs.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and test Software (C++ and/or scripting) to manipulate software models to simulate realistic failures to be used as training scenarios, including researching and understanding electrical/mechanical/fluids systems.
  • Develop Software (C++ and/or scripting) to configure the simulation to various states in a standalone and integrated environment.
  • Enhance software models to provide more realistic fidelity where needed.
  • Interface with systems engineers to understand flight and ground hardware elements.
  • Integrate model development with the GFAS Ground Launch Sequencer to produce effective Launch Count Down Simulations.
  • Coordinate with NASA Launch Director, Launch Project Engineer, and GSDO system engineers to develop problem scenarios from SLS Launch Commit Criteria and other requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Simulation Training Team to prepare, debug, and execute full Operational Training Events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • BS degree in Electrical, Computer, Physics, Mechanical, Engineering Technology or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited engineering school.
  • Previous experience in Math Model Simulations is preferred.
  • Experience with C++.
  • Familiarity with UNIX/Linux environment.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering schematics and drawings is desirable.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects/tasks; work effectively in a team; communicate clearly in writing and verbally.
  • Computer experience with Microsoft Office, Internet, and Outlook.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently or with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, if necessary.
  • Willingness to travel to support position requirements; may involve airline travel; accommodations possible for POV.
  • Valid CDL with endorsements and Florida driver\'s license may be required.
  • Must pass a federal background investigation and comply with drug-free workplace requirements.
Work Environment and Requirements
  • Climb stairs, ladders, and access equipment; wear hearing and eye protection as required.
  • Extended periods of sitting or standing; ability to work in tight spaces.
  • Work inside and outside the test complex; travel to different areas on site; walk on uneven terrain.
  • Safe handling per NASA and company safety standards.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver\'s license; occasional travel; occasional overtime may be required.
  • US citizenship or legal permanent residency may be required.
  • Grooming and dress standards to minimize safety risks; professional conduct with customers and colleagues.
