Job Description

The Operations Coordinator, HB Coding aligns with NM's mission, vision, and values, adheres to the Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, standards, and regulations.

This role is a subject matter expert and role model within the Coding Department, coordinating efforts to compile and maintain data across functional areas. Responsibilities include monitoring division statistics, maintaining dashboards, ensuring compliance with State and Federal standards, and overseeing daily staffing and work assignments. The position also provides lead support to Coding Management for projects and coverage.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily operations, providing training and mentorship to staff
  • Monitor coding responsibilities for regulatory compliance
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert within the division
  • Design and implement workflow processes for continuous improvement
  • Participate in continuing education and collaborate with Coding Educators
  • Support employee engagement and teamwork
  • Prepare schedules to ensure coverage and support A/R goals
  • Collaborate on maintaining content on Team Site/SharePoint
  • Utilize existing technology effectively
  • Assist with performance reviews and staff counseling
  • Analyze performance data and respond to issues from NMHC staff
  • Lead department projects, including system testing and staff training
  • Monitor staffing levels and work activity, supporting management
  • Collaborate with Epic team to optimize workflows
  • Identify opportunities to reduce denials from a coding perspective
  • Assist with budget planning and efficiency initiatives
  • Participate in organizational meetings and reporting
  • Train new hires and onboard contract coders
  • Compile and report productivity and quality metrics
  • Identify educational opportunities through staff interactions
  • Travel to NM locations as needed to support the team
  • Facilitate staff huddles and update resources
  • Handle administrative functions like PTO requests, scheduling, and timesheet verification
  • Contribute to policy and procedure development and maintenance

Qualifications

Required:

  • RHIT, RHIA, or CCS credential
  • Minimum 5 years of coding experience in an acute healthcare setting
  • Leadership experience
  • Critical thinking, decisiveness, and ability to work independently in stressful environments

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • 7 years of coding experience in an acute healthcare setting
