Job summary

The Center for AI Safety (CAIS) is hiring an Operations Associate to keep CAIS running smoothly in San Francisco. This role covers office operations, IT & systems, people operations, and event support in a fast-paced nonprofit research setting.

You’ll triage requests, maintain docs, onboard/offboard staff, coordinate events, and partner with teams to scale operations alongside a growing mission in AI safety.

Qualifications

• Ability to manage multiple workstreams and competing priorities.
• Clear, professional communicator able to coordinate across teams.
• Discretion handling sensitive information and access lists.
• Familiarity with common tools (Google Workspace, Slack, Notion).
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a reliable first-line contact for staff questions and requests, triage and route to resolution.
• Monitor shared channels and inboxes, ensuring requests are acknowledged and closed.
• Maintain internal documents, guides, and tracking systems for the Ops team.
• Provide administrative and operational support to Ops leadership and teams.
• Ideally propose and implement solutions to improve staffing, processes and tools.
