Job Description The Campus Operations Business Analyst collects, analyzes, and reports data that measures institutional performance across sustainability, facilities, dining, campus business services, finance, and operations. The Analyst will manage and interpret datasets, coordinate assessments and reports, and collaborate with campus partners to enhance transparency and support data-driven decision-making. Working with Campus Operations staff, the Analyst will help track and monitor building systems and equipment, utility performance, sustainability initiatives, food costs, and other financial and operational metrics. This role plays a key part in advancing the University’s operational goals and reports to the Office of Campus Operations, working closely with department leaders.
Data Analytics, Performance & Reporting Design, implement, and maintain data collection processes for sustainability, facilities, dining, campus business services, utilities, and other financial and operations metrics. Aggregate and validate data from multiple sources (building management systems, utility meters, financial systems, POS, surveys, spreadsheets). Maintain data integrity, document data definitions, methodologies, data sources and procedures, and manage central data repositories. Develop, calculate, and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) and benchmarks for energy, water, waste, equipment uptime, food cost, labor productivity, revenue, and other operational metrics. Perform trend, root-cause and variance analysis to explain performance changes and identify improvement opportunities. Conduct scenario and cost-benefit analyses to support operational decisions and capital planning. Produce regular and ad hoc reports, executive summaries, interactive dashboards, visualizations, and scorecards using BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) to communicate performance, findings, and actionable recommendations to leadership and stakeholders.
Support ongoing tracking of building systems and equipment condition, maintenance schedules, and utility performance metrics. Work with maintenance and engineering teams to configure and validate Building Management Systems (BMS) and meter data for analytics. Coordinate assessments, surveys and program evaluations (e.g., energy audits, waste audits, dining cost reviews). Coordinate the completion of sustainability assessments and reports, including regular submissions to AASHE STARS, Sustainable Campus Index, APPA, and state reporting, while performing gap analyses to identify areas for enhancement and supporting alignment with institutional and regulatory reporting requirements. Support initiatives to improve operational efficiency and sustainability (energy conservation measures, waste reduction, LEED certification). Help prepare materials for accreditation, regulatory submissions, or external benchmarking programs.
Participate in cross-functional working groups and project teams; act as a liaison between Campus Operations and other units. Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial reconciliation related to operations as required. Recommend process improvements, data-driven policies and best practices to increase transparency and operational effectiveness.
Present findings and recommendations to leadership, staff, and campus partners and respond to data requests from internal and external stakeholders in a timely manner. Train departmental staff on data entry processes, reporting tools, and interpretation of KPIs. Build and maintain relationships across campus departments to ensure efficient, consistent, and integrated data collection processes and provide analytical and technical support on data-related projects to team members, committees, and working groups.

Knowledge, skills & ability: Demonstrated proficiency in quantitative analysis and advanced use of Microsoft Excel; familiarity with EnergyCAP, SIMAP, Tableau, ArcGIS, and other data management or visualization tools preferred. Demonstrated ability to aggregate, validate, and maintain data from multiple systems (BMS, utility meters, financial systems, POS, spreadsheets). Familiarity with key operational and sustainability metrics (energy, water, waste, equipment uptime, food cost, labor productivity, transportation, fleet, revenue). Ability to perform trend, variance, root-cause, and scenario/cost-benefit analyses and translate findings into recommendations. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to prepare clear narratives, executive summaries, and presentations for diverse stakeholders. Experience coordinating cross-functional projects and working collaboratively with operational and technical teams. Strong attention to detail, organization, and documentation practices for data integrity and reproducibility. Understanding of/or ability to learn building management systems, operations, and controls. LEED Accredited Professional (O+M or NC) credential preferred, or willingness to obtain within one year of hire. Certified Energy Manager (CEM) credentials are valued.
Bachelor’s degree in business Analytics, Data Science, Economics, Finance, Environmental Science, Sustainability, Engineering, Statistics, or related field preferred; equivalent relevant professional experience, training, or certifications will also be considered. 2–4 years of professional experience in data analysis, operations analytics, facilities management analytics, sustainability reporting, or similar roles.
