Job summary

CAMS - Texas in Waldorf, MD-area facility seeks an Electrical Technician to maintain and repair electrical power plant equipment, including motors, transformers, and switch gear. The role requires inspection, testing, installation, and troubleshooting at a high level.

Ideal candidates have 2–5+ years in power plants, familiarity with test instruments, and extensive electrical/mechanical training. A valid driver’s license and occasional travel are required; comprehensive benefits are offered.

  • Familiar with the usage of test equipment and precision instruments to identify problems.
  • Completion of extensive technical training in electrical/mechanical work is required.
  • Power plant experience in a combined cycle process with GE 7FA combustion turbines preferred.

Job description

The Electrical Technician will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of all electrical equipment in the facility. This role will perform work requiring a high level of skill in the inspection, repair, testing, adjustment, installation of all electrical power plant equipment and systems. Individuals who have demonstrated experience in a multi-skill set that are needed at power plants are preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintenance of a combined cycle power plant to include troubleshooting, calibrating, repairing, tuning, and replacing electrical & mechanical equipment and components.
  • 480v to 4160v proficient in motors, transformers, and associated switch gear.
  • Proficient in 24Vdc to 125Vdc systems and ability to troubleshoot switches, solenoids, protective relays, and switch gear.
  • Knowledge of excitation systems and generators.
  • Ability to troubleshoot at control card level for control circuits, including open and closed loop circuits.
  • Knowledge and the ability to diagnose and repair turbine controls including servos, temperature devices and gas controls.
  • Maintain all plant electrical and mechanical test equipment.
  • Ability to read electrical and control diagrams.
  • Knowledge in the diagnoses and repair of several different types of control valves, block valves and manual isolation valves.
  • Skilled and proficient in laser alignment of high-speed pumps compressors and fans.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting and repairing MOV and AOV actuators.
  • Responds to station power outages and equipment failures as required.
  • Assist in maintaining and controlling spare parts inventory to maintain plant reliability.
  • Participate in the administrative maintenance of the plant operating manuals, technical references, prints and diagrams and preventive/predictive maintenance records.
  • Assist in operation of plant equipment and systems as directed.
  • Fully support and participate in Safety and Regulatory Compliance Programs
  • Promotes and works with others in a team environment.
  • Complete required operations/maintenance training and qualification programs.
  • Must make expeditious appropriate decision to non-routine plant operating situations.
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Skills
  • 2-5 + years related experience required working in a power plant environment or relevant military experience.
  • Should be familiar with the usage of test equipment and other precision test instruments to be used in identifying problems.
  • Completion of extensive technical training in electrical/mechanical work is required.
  • Specific power plant experience in combined cycle process with GE 7FA combustion turbines preferred.
  • Physical requirements include lifting 40 to 75 pounds, walking, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, etc. Work may be performed around rotating equipment and highly energized and/or pressurized systems.
  • Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Good decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated planning and organizational skills.
  • Capability to multi-task and prioritize work.
  • Ability to handle constantly changing and emerging work priorities and schedules.
  • Ability to work effectively with other team members.
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to interact with various personality types desired.
  • Good computer skills including Microsoft Office and other computer-based productivity tools.
  • Demonstrates decision making abilities, long term developmental capabilities and networking skills.

$45 - $63 an hour

Applicants must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record, as this position requires occasional travel for company business. Candidates should be comfortable operating a vehicle as part of their job responsibilities and must meet any applicable company and insurance requirements.
