Job summary

Jobtailor seeks a Senior Operational Risk Manager to lead risk-based challenges and second-line risk management in line with the ORM framework and industry standards. You will assess risks across evolving technologies, data-driven decisioning, third-party dependencies, and change management.

You will oversee risk identification, assessment, monitoring, mitigation, and reporting; present risk opinions to senior leadership; and collaborate with first-line risk, technology risk, compliance, model

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with eight years' experience in risk, compliance, legal, audit, or related function
• Proficient with Excel, PowerPoint, and Power BI
• Strong written and verbal communication with all levels of management
• Knowledge of regulations and industry standards for Operational Risk Management
• Preferred: eight years of progressive growth in ORM, Technology Risk, and/or ERM

Responsibilities

• Provide independent, risk-based challenge and risk management services aligned with ORM framework and industry standards
• Assess risks involving evolving technologies, data-driven decisioning, third-party dependencies, data and model risk
• Provide oversight of risk identification, assessment, monitoring, mitigation, and reporting
• Challenge unmitigated risks and elevate gaps
• Prepare and present risk opinions and reports for senior leadership
• Support the ORM Framework with First Line Risk and monitor alignment with policies, guidance, and supervisory expectations
• Collaborate with first-line risk, technology risk, compliance, model risk, and other second-line partners
• Assess issues, control failures, and policy breaches, with root-cause analysis
• Engage with external peers to monitor emerging risks and inform oversight activities
• Report to Operational Risk Senior Manager; provide guidance to others

Job description

• Provide independent, risk-based challenge and second-line risk management services aligned with the Operational Risk Management Framework, policies, regulations, and industry standards


• Assess risks, threats, and opportunities involving evolving technologies, digital channels, data-driven decisioning, emerging business models, technology-enabled process risk, third-party dependencies, data and model risk, resilience, and change management


• Provide oversight and critical challenge of risk identification, assessment, monitoring, mitigation, and reporting


• Challenge unmitigated risks, assess remediation adequacy and timeliness, and elevate gaps


• Prepare, review, and present risk opinions, reports, and presentations for senior leadership


• Support the ORM Framework with First Line Risk and monitor alignment with policies, guidance, and supervisory expectations


• Collaborate with first-line risk, technology risk, compliance, model risk, and other second-line partners


• Assess issues, control failures, and policy breaches, including root-cause analysis and remediation effectiveness


• Engage with external peers and professional organizations to monitor emerging risks and inform oversight activities


• Report to an Operational Risk Senior Manager; provide guidance to others without direct management responsibility

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and eight years' experience in risk, compliance, legal, audit, or other relevant function, OR a combined minimum of twelve years’ higher education and/or work experience including eight years’ experience in risk, compliance, legal, audit, or other relevant function


• Proficient computer skills, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Power BI


• Analytical skills with strong written and verbal communications with all levels of management


• Working knowledge of relevant regulations and industry standards for Operational Risk Management


• Preferred: Eight years of progressive-growth experience within Operational Risk Management, Technology Risk Management, and/or Enterprise Risk Management


• Preferred: Hands-on experience in Operational Risk Tools, Metrics, and Monitoring Reports development and/or enhancement projects


• Preferred: Second line Operational Risk experience with a Cat 3 or larger financial institution


• Preferred: Project planning experience or Project Management certification
