Job summary

Community Blood Center is seeking a supervisor for blood collection operations to ensure donor safety, product integrity and high-level service. You will lead staff at Donor Centers and mobile drives, oversee quality control and training, and serve as an onsite technical resource.

The role emphasizes donor experience, adherence to SOPs, and collaboration across daily operations, with travel to fixed sites and mobile collections as needed.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 1+ year of related experience in a blood center, phlebotomy, customer service or leadership.
  • Experience in a regulated environment and demonstrated leadership capabilities.
  • Familiarity with FDA and AABB standards preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license may be required; travel to fixed/mobile sites.

Responsibilities

  • Trains on all whole blood and apheresis procedures available at work locations based on lead.
  • Performs quality control review and record reconciliation.
  • Delivers positive donor experiences, educates donors, and analyzes donor data to optimize collections.
  • Participates in audits and competency assessments; coaches staff.
  • Troubleshoots equipment and computer issues at fixed sites or mobiles.
  • Manages blood collection processes to optimize donor flow and staff utilization.
  • May conduct donor care technician training and prepare reports.
  • Regular travel to Donor Center and mobile collections sites as needed.

Responsibilities

This position is responsible for the efficient and effective operation of blood collection activities to ensure donor and product safety, customer service, and adherence to standard operating procedures. Leads activities such as open/close staff assignments, quality control, donor screening, phlebotomy, automation, and special collections at Donor Centers and mobile blood drives; serves as an onsite technical resource. Position is designated essential during severe weather or emergency operations.

$2,500.00 Sign On Bonus Available

Ideal candidate will have supervisory experience in the service industry.

Primary Duties, Responsibilities or Activities Required by the Job:

  • Trained on all whole blood and apheresis procedures present at work locations as appropriate based on operational lead.
  • Performs quality control review and record reconciliation.
  • Provide positive donor experience including donor education and customer service recovery; analyze donor data to determine optimal product collections on appropriate instruments.
  • Participate in employee audits (e.g., FDA or quality audits); conduct ongoing competency assessments, including retraining; provide technical coaching to staff.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and computer issues at fixed sites or mobiles.
  • Manage blood collection processes to ensure optimal donor flow and staff utilization; plan staff assignments, breaks, and lunches per standards and donor needs; ensure appropriate handling of blood collections.
  • May conduct donor care technician training for new or newly promoted staff; prepare reports; attend conferences and seminars; recommend improvements; perform related duties as assigned.
  • Regular travel to Donor Center and mobile collections sites as needed.
Qualifications

Required Minimum Education & Experience:

Education: High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED).

Related Experience: 1 or more years of directly related experience in a blood center, phlebotomy, a highly regulated environment, customer service or leadership.

Any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to the requirements above that has supplied the necessary knowledge, skills and experience to perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications:

Familiarity with standards and regulations from applicable regulatory agencies such as the American Association of Blood Banking (AABB) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Required Licenses / Certifications:

  • Valid driver's license may be required depending on division; reliable transportation required for travel to fixed and mobile sites.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification preferred.
