Job summary

Magrathea, based in Oakland, California, is building a hands‑on operational finance function to keep payments moving, records accurate, and reporting on time. You’ll work with QuickBooks, Rippling, Ramp, and external bookkeepers to supervise payroll, expenses, and cash administration while coordinating with the CEO and CFO on grants and audits.

This role requires 5+ years in finance operations, strong reconciliation skills, and a practical mindset to scale a security‑critical technology startup.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in operational finance or similar roles.
• Experience handling high-value cash operations.
• Hands-on bookkeeping with reconciliations and month-end close.
• Experience using Rippling for payroll and Ramp for expenses.
• Comfort with banking platforms like JPMorgan/Schwab.
• Experience coordinating a controller and external bookkeepers.
• Grant reporting and audit support experience preferred.
• Strong MS Office skills and data reconciliation abilities.
• Proficiency using AI tools to aid finance tasks.
• Understanding of payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and internal controls.

Responsibilities

• Own daily finance workflows: payroll, records, and reporting.
• Manage internal accounting platforms and external bookkeeping partners.
• Coordinate grant reporting and audits; liaise with leadership.
• Oversee cash management, invoicing, and treasury tasks.
• Support budgeting, spending analyses, and board reporting.
• Implement AI-assisted workflows to improve accuracy and efficiency.
• Ensure payment approvals, access controls, and audit trails.
• Contribute to vendor management and procurement processes.
