Job summary

US Navy CTIs are highly skilled linguists who collect, translate, transcribe and analyze foreign language communications to inform national security and fleet operations. They operate advanced radio and computer systems and work with classified material and AI/ML technologies.

After Recruit Training, CTIs attend two phases of Navy A School in Monterey and Goodfellow, developing language skills with paid opportunities and ongoing language maintenance throughout their careers.

Qualifications

• CTI candidates must demonstrate strong character and attention to detail.
• Demonstrate interest in learning foreign languages.
• Show above-average writing and speaking ability.
• Exhibit good memory, curiosity and resourcefulness.
• Interest in technology, information and analytical work.
• Adaptability across different work environments and willingness to acquire new skills.

Responsibilities

• Operate advanced radio receivers, recording devices, computer terminals and communications systems.
• Translate, interpret and transcribe foreign language communications data.
• Analyze and report highly technical intelligence for fleet commanders and national agencies.
• Work with classified material and advanced AI/ML systems.
• Perform temporary duty aboard Navy ships and submarines as required.
