Job summary

State of Florida’s Department of Law Enforcement seeks an Operating Systems Programmer I to maintain server availability and support mission-critical systems critical to public safety. This role reports to the Data Processing Manager and performs installation, maintenance and consulting to FDLE and other agencies.

The position emphasizes Linux administration (RHEL), security best practices, and Java/JBoss support, with opportunities for professional growth within a structured state program.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux and current versions.
• Knowledge of secure OS practices and security configurations.
• Knowledge of file permissions, ownerships and groups in Linux.
• Ability to monitor and maintain system availability.
• Experience supporting Java-based web applications.
• Experience with JBoss EAP and related products.
• Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex system problems.
• Ability to interpret network operating system information.

Responsibilities

• Install, support and maintain system hardware and software.
• Provide lifecycle maintenance for software programs managed by OSA.
• Consult with stakeholders to determine business needs and define system requirements.
• Provide support for system software through problem diagnosis and changes.
• Perform regular monitoring to ensure system availability.
• Develop and implement programs to enhance system software.
• Provide guidance on effective IT use to support FDLE programs.
• Provide training to ITS staff on applications and systems.
