The primary purpose of the Operating Room Technician I position is to work under the supervision of the professional nurse. The OR Technician I assists with surgical procedures and related activities in the operating room. They deliver care aligned with the Association of Surgical Technologists’ Standards of Practice, ensuring quality care in a cost-effective manner.

The OR Technician I should possess knowledge of sterile and aseptic techniques, human anatomy, surgical procedures, and the use of implementation tools and technology to support physicians during invasive, therapeutic, and diagnostic procedures. Competency to scrub for both minor and major surgical and endoscopic procedures is required. Certification as a technician is necessary.

The role involves participation in departmental quality improvement activities, meeting continuing education and certification requirements, and contributing to student teaching. The technician must uphold the Patient Care Services philosophy and demonstrate professional growth.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technician Program.
• Eligibility to sit for the LCC-ST certifying examination.
• Preferred: One year of related experience and certification as an Operating Room Technician (LCC-ST).

Physical demands include constant walking, bending, standing, and pushing heavy objects. The technician must maintain a professional appearance, exhibit patience and tact, and have excellent hand-eye coordination. Work environment includes air-conditioned settings with specific temperature and humidity requirements, and potential exposure to various hazards.

Credentials required: Certified Surgical Technician certification, CPR.
