Job summary

Rivers Health is seeking a part‑time Certified Surgical Technician in our Surgical Services Department. Responsible for the direct patient care within the Operating Room under the supervision of the registered nurse and following departmental standards, policies and procedures.

Essential functions include maintaining sterile technique, setting up instruments, decontamination, supporting the surgical team, and contributing to CQI efforts.

Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Technician
• Direct patient care within the Operating Room under the supervision of the registered nurse and following departmental standards, policies and procedures.
• Ensure the use of sterile asepsis during surgical procedures.
• Attend educational offerings; maintain minimum of 16 contact hours annually.
• Foster an atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration.
• Participate in hospital-wide, interdisciplinary CQI process as directed.
• Comply with Corporate Policies, Departmental Policies and Procedures and Employee Handbook.
• Cross-train to other areas as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Perform surgical hand scrub, set up back table and Mayo stand for handling instruments and assist surgeon during surgical cases.
• Ensure the use of sterile asepsis during surgical procedures.
• Follow departmental policies for decontamination of surgical suites at the beginning, between, and on completion of surgical cases during the shift.
• Assist in decontamination, disinfecting and/or sterilization of all instrumentation and equipment.
• Ensure adequate supplies are available to complete anticipated caseload during the shift.
• Transport patients, supplies and specimens as directed.
• Attend unit meetings.
• Participate in hospital-wide, interdisciplinary CQI process as directed.
• Take responsibility for specific projects ensuring compliance to standards of environment of care, management information, care of patients and infection control.
• Complete all annual competencies for assigned areas of responsibility.
• Demonstrate excellence in customer service skills.
• Cross-train to other areas as assigned.
