Veterans Health Administration in Washington, DC is seeking a Surgical Technician (Operating Room) to join the operating room team. The ST will act as the primary scrub person, handling instruments, supplies, and complex equipment across a full range of surgical procedures, under supervision of the surgical team.

Responsibilities include planning with surgical professionals, ensuring availability of supplies, assisting with patient positioning, and maintaining sterility.

Qualifications

• Must have specialized experience equivalent to GS-6 in a hospital or surgical setting.
• Documented competency in sterile technique, instrument handling, and surgical field preparation across multiple specialties.
• Ability to anticipate surgeon and team needs during routine and complex procedures.
• Experience handling surgical specimens and managing for implantable devices.
• Clear communication with surgeons, nurses, anesthesia staff, and other team members.

Responsabilités

• Functions as primary scrub person handling instruments and supplies during surgeries.
• Plan and discuss each procedure with surgical professionals and ensure supplies and equipment are ready.
• Assist patient care including positioning, transporting, prepping, and draping for surgery.
• Maintain sterility and monitor aseptic technique during procedures.
• Provide guidance to OR staff and supervise volunteers and aides.
