Job summary

Optim is seeking a Surgical Technician to support the operating room in Reidsville, GA. You will prepare the OR, assemble instruments, and assist surgeons during procedures, while maintaining a sterile environment and patient safety. Strong teamwork and adherence to asepsis standards are essential.

Experience is preferred, but new grads will be considered. Certification through NBSTA is preferred; BLS is required.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Graduate of a recognized and accredited Surgical Technologist Program.
• NBSTA Certification as a surgical technologist preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepares operating room for surgical procedures, assembles supplies, instruments, and equipment.
• Assists in clean-up of rooms between procedures and at the end of the schedule.
• Assists in monitoring and maintaining instruments, supplies, and equipment in the unit.
• Maintains proficiency in knowledge of surgical instruments, equipment, and AORN / AAMI standards of asepsis.
• Participates in the sponge, needle, and instruments count with the circulating nurse as needed.
• Responsible for identifying and preserving specimens received during surgery.
• Reports to supervisor any unusual occurrences, breaks in technique, malfunctioning equipment, any unsafe condition or potential hazard.
• Contributes to a positive work climate and the overall team effort of the department.
• Attends required in-services and educational programs.
• Performs other related duties as requested or assigned.
• Assists physician in wound care, application of splints and dressings, and dressing changes.
