Job summary

The Department of Perioperative Services at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University seeks a full-time Registered Nurse 1, Operating Room to provide direct nursing care in a busy surgical setting.

Under general direction, the RN1 will assess patients, administer medications, document care, and participate in care planning with a multidisciplinary team. This role requires NYS RN licensure and adherence to infection control policies.

Qualifications

• Must be licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State.
• Full performance level nurse position with independent direct care responsibility.

Responsibilities

• Prepares nursing care plans consistent with treatment plans.
• Carries out procedures, administers medications, monitors patients.
• Records medical notes, nursing care plans, medications, treatments, and vitals.
• Participates in development and revision of care plans with the multidisciplinary team.
• Modifies care plans based on patient condition and response to treatment.
• Triages patients and documents findings and observations.
• Assesses and refers to physicians in emergencies or assists with treatment.
• Provides education and counseling to patients and families.
• Ensures infection control compliance.
• Trains paraprofessional staff in nursing techniques.
