Job summary

Henry Ford Jackson Hospital is seeking an experienced Operating Room Circulating Nurse to join our Surgical Services team. You will coordinate patient care, maintain sterile technique, and support surgeons, CRNAs, and technologists in a fast-paced OR setting.

We value teamwork, safety, and excellent communication. A BSN is preferred (ADN acceptable with commitment to complete BSN within 5 years). Minimum 1 year of OR circulating experience is required, with opportunities for professional growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred; Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) acceptable with commitment to complete BSN within 5 years of hire date
• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
• Minimum of 1 year of operating room circulating experience
• Demonstrated clinical expertise in sterile technique, infection control, and patient safety protocols
• Ability to anticipate surgical team needs and adapt quickly in a fast-paced, specialized surgical environment
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and interdisciplinary team members

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary circulating nurse, coordinating all aspects of patient care throughout surgical procedures while maintaining sterile technique and safety protocols
• Conduct comprehensive preoperative assessments, including patient history review, consent verification, and information sharing with the surgical team
• Prepare and maintain the operating room environment, ensuring equipment, instruments, and supplies are organized and functional
• Advocate for patient safety by infection control measures, site verification, and compliance with standards and hospital policies
• Communicate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, surgical technologists, and team members to coordinate seamless case flow
• Document nursing notes, patient responses, medications, specimens, and intraoperative events
• Provide education to patients and families regarding procedures and postoperative expectations
• Identify variances from expected outcomes and contribute to quality improvement initiatives
