Location: Bradenton, FL. Schedule: Monday–Friday; pay range $35.26-$41.49 per hour; Non-Exempt, non-temporary permanent role with a focus on patient safety and high-quality surgical care.

Job description

Adecco Healthcare & Life Sciences is seeking an experienced Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN) to support an Office-Based Laboratory surgical team. The Operating Room Nurse is responsible for providing and coordinating comprehensive perioperative nursing care throughout the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases of care.

The RN works closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other members of the healthcare team to ensure patient safety, maintain sterile technique, administer medications, monitor patients, and provide high-quality surgical care. The nurse also serves as an important resource for patients and families by providing education, reassurance, and clear communication throughout the surgical experience.

Schedule: Monday-Friday with the potential for a 6:00am start date

Pay Range: $35.26 - $41.49

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive assessments of patients' physical, clinical, and psychosocial needs throughout the perioperative experience.

  • Assess and monitor patients before, during, and after surgical procedures.

  • Observe behavioral and physiological changes related to medications, anesthesia, and treatment and take appropriate action.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of medications, including indications, actions, potential side effects, and appropriate administration.

  • Maintain patient privacy, dignity, safety, and confidentiality at all times.

  • Provide patients and families with appropriate explanations, education, and emotional support.

  • Communicate patient assessments, reassessments, and changes in condition clearly and accurately to surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other members of the healthcare team.

  • Develop and implement individualized plans of care safely and effectively.

  • Maintain current clinical competencies appropriate to the assigned specialty.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of anesthetic medications, their actions, and potential side effects.

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete clinical documentation.

  • Prepare the clinical area for subsequent patients and maintain an organized, safe environment.

  • Complete controlled-substance counts at the beginning and end of shifts in accordance with facility policy.

  • Attend required staff meetings, in-services, and educational programs.

  • Recognize professional limitations, seek assistance when appropriate, and obtain information necessary to provide safe patient care.

  • Incorporate cost-effective practices into daily clinical care.

  • Participate in quality improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives.

  • Provide age-appropriate care to patients across the lifespan, including pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations, as applicable.

  • Demonstrate the ability to work independently, prioritize responsibilities, and effectively multitask.

  • Cross-train in at least two clinical areas.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Operating Room Responsibilities
  • Ensure patients are fully prepared for surgery, including verification of NPO status, medication administration, required documentation, and completion of surgical time-out procedures.

  • Safely position patients for surgical procedures, including appropriate padding of bony prominences and protection of respiratory and circulatory function.

  • Ensure appropriate patient preparation, prepping, and draping procedures.

  • Maintain strict aseptic and sterile technique throughout surgical procedures.

  • Open and present sterile supplies and instruments to the sterile field using appropriate aseptic technique.

  • Verify that surgical supplies and equipment are within expiration dates and appropriate for use.

  • Perform and document accurate counts of sponges, needles, sharps, and other surgical items before, during, and after procedures.

  • Prepare, clean, and maintain operating room suites before, between, and after surgical cases.

  • Accurately collect, label, document, and handle surgical specimens according to established protocols.

  • Perform the duties and responsibilities of a circulating room nurse.

  • Provide a thorough handoff report to the PACU nurse regarding the patient's intraoperative condition, medications, procedures, and any concerns requiring follow-up.

  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nurses, and other surgical team members to promote patient safety and efficient case turnover.

Preoperative / PACU Responsibilities
  • Utilize advanced nursing assessment skills to identify patient care needs and develop appropriate plans of care.

  • Complete initial preoperative assessments and identify potential risks or concerns prior to surgery.

  • Explain the surgical and perioperative process to patients and their families.

  • Provide comfort measures and emotional support before and after procedures.

  • Monitor patients recovering from various types of anesthesia and conscious sedation.

  • Administer medications through intravenous and other appropriate routes according to physician orders and facility protocols.

  • Monitor patients for adverse reactions, complications, and changes in clinical condition.

  • Provide comprehensive discharge education regarding medications, postoperative care, activity restrictions, warning signs, and follow-up instructions.

  • Strong knowledge of perioperative and surgical nursing practices.

  • Experience assessing and preparing patients for surgical procedures.

  • Strong understanding of aseptic and sterile techniques.

  • Knowledge of surgical instruments, equipment, and operating room procedures.

  • Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition.

  • Ability to work effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.

  • Strong understanding of patient safety and infection prevention standards.

Requirements & Preferred Qualifications
  • Current state-approved Registered Nurse (RN) license; LPN may be considered where applicable.

  • 3–5 years of perioperative nursing experience preferred.

  • Previous experience in an Operating Room, Cath Lab, Electrophysiology, or Invasive Vascular setting preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of surgical instruments, equipment, and sterile technique preferred.

  • CNOR certification preferred.

  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required.

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

  • Experience with electronic health records and patient management systems preferred.

Pay Details: $35.26 to $41.49 per hour
