Qualifications

Operating Room Materials Technician

What you will be doing

The Operating Room Materials Technician is responsible for the daily management and annual planning of materials used within the operating room, including the coordination and provision of supplies that enable patient care. The role manages the non‑salary expense budget and ensures supply availability and quality throughout the process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Materials Management – 70%
    • Create and manage pars within the operating room, using handheld devices when required.
    • Perform physical receipt of goods and validate shipping against packing slips.
    • Coordinate deliveries, vendor‑managed pars (e.g., linen) and contracted suppliers.
    • Manage outstanding requisition approvals, backorders, and receipts through procurement queries.
    • Execute RTVs (returns to vendor) and enter asset information into the asset management system for capital equipment.
    • Rotate and stock products following a first‑in, first‑out model.
  • Budget – 20%
    • Support budget planning by conducting product research and providing information.
    • Monitor inventory levels against budget allocations.
    • Meet regularly with operations to discuss budget overages or shortfalls.
  • Communication – 10%
    • Review product recall alerts and take required action within specified timeframes.
    • Communicate recall information to affected departments.
    • Identify alternate or substitute products in partnership with operations.
    • Communicate backorders as directed.
Required Qualifications
  • Work Experience: 2 or more years in a related role.
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED (Required).
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience with materials management and supply chain systems; strong organizational skills.

    • Adapt to changing priorities and meet deadlines.
    • Attention to detail and effective communication, both in person and electronically.
    • Ability to make independent decisions and work collaboratively in a close‑quarters environment.
Physical Demands

Heavy: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, or up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary range: $42,000 - $63,000, dependent on market factors and internal equity.
