Job summary

UMC Health System is seeking an Environmental Service Assistant for the Operating Room to perform cleaning, transportation, and routine sterile supply tasks to support surgical procedures. The role emphasizes attention to safety, timely room turnover, and collaboration with OR staff.

Responsibilities include transporting patients, handling specimens, obtaining blood products, and operating cleaning equipment while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and infection control in a high-risk

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• +1 year of experience in environmental service or related field preferred.
• BLS certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Ensure proper cleaning, preparation and setup of sterile supplies, instruments, and equipment used during surgery.
• Transport patients between care units as needed.
• Handle transport and disposition of specimens and cultures.
• Obtain blood products from Transfusion Services and return unused products.
• Assist staff with room turnover and cleaning between cases.
• Operate cleaning machines and equipment assigned to the role.
• Perform cleaning tasks including trash removal, soiled linens, bed making, floors, and basic barrier checks.
