Job summary

Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital is seeking an OR Assistant to support the surgical team and maintain an optimal operating room environment on the evening shift.

You will assist the team pre-, intra-, and post-operatively, prepare OR suites, transport patients and specimens, and participate in room turnover while upholding patient-centered care and safety standards in a busy hospital setting.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and understand English for communication and written tasks.
• Adheres to IC.A.R.E. standards and hospital safety policies.
• Knowledge of safety standards and hazards in OR suites, including isolation protocols.
• Knowledge of proper body mechanics for patient transfer and lifting of heavy objects.
• Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with health care team.
• Flexibility to respond to a dynamic OR schedule and priorities.
• Must stay alert to OR schedule progress and case needs.

Responsibilities

• Assists the surgical team pre-, intra-, and post-operatively to promote efficient care.
• Anticipates OR schedule needs, adjusts plans, and ensures equipment is ready for cases.
• Prepares OR suites for daily schedule and communicates missing items to the team.
• Maintains room turnover, cleanliness, and readiness between cases.
• Transports patients and specimens to appropriate locations safely.
• Cleans and prepares stretchers and rooms, following policies and procedures.
• Assists in patient transfer with proper body mechanics and safety measures.
