Job Description Summary

Under the direction and supervision of licensed personnel, the Operating Room Assistant assists in providing direct patient care and tasks required for daily unit functions.

Minimum Training and Education

High school diploma or equivalency (GED) with at least six months of experience working in a hospital setting. Completion of a recognized allied health course or six months patient care experience in a healthcare setting is preferred. May require working irregular hours, rotating shifts and weekends.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations

Basic Life Support (BLS) within the first two weeks of hire. Thereafter, must maintain a current BLS certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

Physical Requirements

Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, working indoors and outdoors in temperature extremes, climbing stairs, working from elevated areas, working in confined/cramped spaces, kneeling, bending, twisting, squatting, pinching, gross motor activities, firm grasping, fine manipulation, reaching overhead, repetitive motions, using both legs and lower extremities for balance, reaching in all directions, lifting and carrying 50 lbs unassisted, moving objects 50 lbs from floor, lifting to overhead 25 lbs, exerting up to 50 lbs force. Examples include: transferring a 100 lb patient requiring 50 lbs force; push a 400 lb patient in a wheelchair requiring 20 lbs; push a stretcher with one hand requiring 25 lbs. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, hearing acuity, fine motor movements, handle stressful situations, work rotating shifts, overtime, latex safe environment, maintain tactile/olfactory sensory functions, and respirator use as selected positions.
