Consolidated Edison Company of New York is seeking an Operating Mechanic to monitor and operate boiler rooms, steam systems and electrical equipment in a busy power generation environment.

You will work with control systems to regulate temperature, pressure and steam flow, perform heavy manual labor, and flex across posts such as Rover and Control Room while complying with safety regulations including PPE use.

Formación

• High School Diploma or GED plus 1 year of relevant power plant/maritime/Navy experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is preferred, with knowledge of boiler water chemistry and steam cycles.

Overview

Operating Mechanics help control, operate, and maintain machinery to generate steam and electricity. These team members use control systems to operate equipment remotely and regulate the output of the boilers. In addition, Operating Mechanics monitor instruments to control voltage, temperature, pressure and steam flows from the plant to meet fluctuating consumer demand throughout the day.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities

• Mechanics in this role will perform operational functions; including the operation of boilers, fans, pumps, and all auxiliary equipment in a steam generating station.
• Mechanics engage in mechanical maintenance tasks and heavy manual labor.
• Mechanics are expected to flex across the station's various operating posts, including but not limited to Rover and Control Room assignments, as well as perform high-voltage electrical switching.
• Mechanics will perform work involving steam production, working with steam generating boilers, boiler feed pumps and fans and related auxiliary equipment, water treatment systems, and fuel delivery systems.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience

• High School Diploma/GED and 1 year of relevant Power Plant, Merchant Marine or United States Navy other related maritime experience

Preferred Education/Experience

• Bachelor's Degree Engineering Knowledge of boiler water chemistry and steam cycles.

Licenses and Certifications

• Driver's License Required

Physical Demands

• Perform heavy manual labor, i.e. push, pull, and lift up to 50lbs
• Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
• Ability to work with, and in, the vicinity of high voltage and/or other high-energy systems
• Ability to be approved to wear and use either a full or half-face respirator, without facial hair or other conditions that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations
• Stand, walk, lift, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, and/or reach for the duration of the workday
• Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
• Work with equipment with a manufacturer weight rating of 350lbs
• Use equipment with a maximum weight rating of 375lbs when wearing and/or carrying 25lbs of clothing and equipment

Additional Physical Demands

• The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
