Job summary

Metro is seeking an experienced Operating Engineer II to join the Portland Expo Center Facilities team. You will operate, monitor, maintain, and repair HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems, ensuring safe, reliable operations for a variety of events.

You will use BAS and CMMS daily, coordinate with event teams and vendors, and participate in on-call coverage. This full-time role is based on-site in Portland and requires a strong customer service mindset and safety focus.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of experience as an operating engineer in a large public events facility or equivalent.
• Experience maintaining HVAC, plumbing, electrical and mechanical systems in a high‑occupancy venue.
• Ability to operate and troubleshoot complex building systems and support event readiness.

Responsibilities

• Operate, monitor, maintain, and repair HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
• Utilize BAS to monitor performance and optimize building operations.
• Maintain and repair kitchen equipment, plumbing fixtures, and backflow devices.
• Support temporary event utility services and CMMS documentation.
• Respond to facility issues and coordinate with vendors and leadership.
• Assist with inventory management of maintenance supplies.
