Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in engineering or related technical science is required.
  • Experience in chiller operations and aero-derivative gas turbine operations is highly desirable.
  • Physically demanding tasks include climbing vertical ladders, working in confined spaces, wearing a respirator, and lifting up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to work 12-hour rotating shifts (nights, weekends, holidays).
  • Proficiency in industry-related software applications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication in English.

Position Summary

The Operating Engineer will play a key role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of plant equipment, including turbines, boilers, and electrical systems. This individual will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining plant operations, enforcing safety regulations, and collaborating with maintenance and operations teams to optimize performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Adhere to and maintain full working knowledge of the plant safety program.
  • Collaborate with Operations and Maintenance Supervisors to ensure safe work practices are followed daily.
  • Supervise and oversee external contractors and maintenance teams, ensuring a safe and hazard-free environment.
  • Operate, regulate, and adjust plant equipment, including:
    • Water levels, temperatures, and draft conditions
    • Pumps, fans, generators, and switchgear
    • Auxiliary and balance-of-plant systems
  • Operate oil purification and filtering equipment, water treatment systems, and gas handling equipment.
  • Clean strainers and wire screens to maintain continuous operation.
  • Read and interpret plant drawings, operational procedures, electrical one-lines, and heat and material balance documentation.
  • Issue Safe Work Permits and enforce plant safety protocols, including:
    • Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) procedures
    • Confined space permit surveys
    • Hot Work Permits
  • Operate localized computer-based control systems for various plant sub-units.
  • Conduct functional tests and interlock testing as directed by the control room.
  • Plan and participate in on-shift preventative maintenance activities.
  • Ensure smooth and accurate shift turnover through detailed written and oral communication.
  • Perform additional duties as required to support plant operations.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical science is required.
  • Experience in chiller operations and aero-derivative gas turbine operations is highly desirable.
  • Must be capable of performing physically demanding tasks, including:
    • Climbing vertical ladders and working in confined spaces
    • Wearing and using a respirator
    • Bending, stooping, and crawling into restricted areas
    • Lifting up to 40 pounds
  • Ability to work 12-hour rotating shifts (including nights, weekends, and holidays).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on operational efficiency.
  • Proficiency in industry-related software applications.
  • Accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to manage priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
