Job summary

Music Academy of the West seeks a Production Manager for Lehrer Vocal Institute to oversee day-to-day production, stage management, and vendor coordination for the summer festival, including one mainstage opera and up to two smaller productions, reporting to the Vice President of Artistic Planning. This is a non-exempt, part-time role, remote off-season and in-person on-site in Santa Barbara during summer.

Compensation is $30 per hour; housing is provided for non-local staff, and travel

Qualifications

• Previous opera production experience, preferably at a managerial level
• Experience with theatre audio, lighting, scenery, and costumes
• Experience with ArtsVision, or similar scheduling software
• Experience managing budgets and teams
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills
• Strong critical thinking, strategic planning, and problem-solving skills
• Superior organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work on a team and adapt to changing work priorities
• Positive and professional demeanor

Responsibilities

• Guide teams through design process from concept to closing night and strike.
• Attend in-person and/or remote meetings throughout the year to discuss progress and address concerns.
• Supervise Stage Manager(s), Assistant Stage Managers, and other summer creative teams, production staff and contractors.
• Create and maintain a professional and safe production environment.
• Coordinate operations with LVI Directors and Music Academy administration.
• Track budgets and ensure production activities stay within approved scope.
• Develop technical and production schedules with venue and union personnel considerations.
• Liaise with venues and oversee production logistics for each show.
• Oversee day-to-day production during rehearsals and performances.
