Job summary

Canonical is seeking a Developer Relations Engineer to bridge engineering and communities globally. You will engage developers, contribute to documentation, and present at events, while shaping the developer experience across Canonical products like Ubuntu.

You will collaborate with teams, travel globally for events, and drive outreach through technical content and community engagement, balancing diplomacy with technical excellence.

Qualifications

  • programmer or developer with a demonstrable passion for and engagement in open-source software
  • experienced with real-world challenges developing and deploying software on Linux
  • hands-on experience packaging Linux software (Snaps, debs, charms, rocks, PIP, containers)
  • aware of current software packaging issues and trends in Linux ecosystems
  • contributor to open-source communities, software and documentation
  • engaging speaker and presenter
  • able to work diplomatically with stakeholders who have different perspectives

Responsibilities

  • participate in team product meetings from strategy to daily development progress
  • maintain conversations with developer communities across IRC, social media, forums and meet-ups
  • collaborate with colleagues across teams to establish consistent approaches
  • solve specific technical problems identified by users or teammates
  • contribute to technical documentation to meet developer needs
  • create technical articles, presentations or workshops
  • identify new opportunities to improve the developer experience
  • present at conferences, meetups or technical events
