Job summary

Astera Institute in Washington, DC is seeking a detail-oriented Data and Partnerships Associate to oversee the full lifecycle of research data, champion open science and FAIR data principles, and help build partnerships with federal science agencies.

You will collaborate with researchers across disciplines, maintain high data quality, develop scalable data infrastructure, and work with a small team of data stewards to document repository interactions and data release practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Science, Library Science, Data Science, or related field; advanced degree preferred
• 5-7+ years of experience managing data in research organizations or similar
• Deep understanding of data quality, governance, and metadata standards
• Familiarity with scientific data formats, repositories, and standards
• Experience initiating and maintaining partnerships with outside organizations, especially federal partners
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to translate technical data requirements for researchers
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple data projects

Responsibilities

• Serve as a point of contact for partnerships and data governance needs
• Maintain high data quality standards and open science practices
• Collaborate with researchers and data stewards on data repository interactions
• Develop scalable data infrastructure and metadata tooling
• Support data sharing while addressing privacy, safety, and dual-use considerations
• Build and maintain partnerships with federal government entities to promote open science
