Job summary

Federation of American Scientists (FAS) is seeking a Senior Associate to join the Government Capacity team in Washington, DC. You will research and advance government capacity reforms, coordinate with senior advisors and consultants, and support policy implementation across federal, state, and local levels.

The role blends policy research with project management and stakeholder engagement, focusing on climate, science policy, and workforce initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and at least three years of relevant experience.
• Strong ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and timelines in a dynamic working environment.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to represent FAS externally at conferences and workshops.

Responsibilities

• Work with the Director for Government Capacity and a team to identify root causes of barriers to effective governing.
• Rapidly develop and evaluate policy and practice changes and support their implementation with agency leaders and policymakers.
• Contribute to Government Capacity Portfolio: workforce and hiring reform, digital modernization, and state capacity work.
• Support DOE hiring and workforce capacity initiatives, stakeholder engagement, and cross-team coordination.
