Position Description

The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at the University of Washington invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor, without tenure (WOT) by reason of funding, to join our faculty group on the clinician-educator pathway. We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in research, teaching, and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community. The successful candidate will join our faculty on a full-time basis for a twelve-month appointment, with an anticipated start date of January 1, 2027.

Assistant Professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Associate and Full Professors WOT hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. The successful candidate will join our faculty on a full-time basis for a twelve-month appointment.

The Department of Laboratories at Seattle Children’s Hospital is recruiting a Molecular Genetics and Cytogenetics Technical Director or Senior Molecular Genetics and Cytogenetics Technical Director, based on experience. Our hospital-based lab is an integrated cytogenetics and molecular laboratory, which analyzes constitutional and oncology specimens using a variety of techniques including chromosome analysis, FISH, chromosomal microarray, MLPA, and DNA and RNA sequencing. The successful candidate should possess strong interpersonal skills and experience with lab operations. They will participate in education of trainees, consult with ordering providers, and present at case conferences and tumor boards. The individual should develop or continue an academic program and stimulate development of new assays in the Genetics Laboratory at Seattle Children’s Hospital and University of Washington.

This position is paid directly by Seattle Children’s Hospital and receives no UW compensation. Please refer to Seattle Children’s Hospital for information about compensation for this position.

All University of Washington faculty are expected to engage in teaching, research, and service.

Qualifications

Applicants for this position must meet the following minimum qualifications:

The successful candidate must have an MD, PhD, or MD/PhD (or foreign equivalent) and be board-eligible or board-certified in Laboratory Genetics and Genomics (LGG), or dual boarded in Clinical Cytogenetics and Genomics and Molecular Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG). Candidates with suitable academic records should jointly apply for an appointment in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at the University of Washington.
