Open-Rank Tenure-Track Faculty Position

Position Overview

The Department of Physics at the Ohio State University announces an opening for a tenure‑track faculty hire in experimental physics, with focus on novel photonic phenomena, materials, and devices. The open rank appointment, with the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor title depending on qualifications, will start in Autumn 2027. We envision a candidate with strong potential for excellence in all aspects of scholarship and who will collaborate with the broad research community across campus and be an active member of major research centres and institutes at the Ohio State University, such as the Center for Emergent Materials (CEM), the National eXtreme Ultrafast Science Facility (NeXUS, an NSF Mid‑Scale Research Facility), the Institute for Optical Science, the Center for the Exploration of Novel Complex Materials (ENCOMM), the Center for Quantum Information Science and Engineering (CQISE), and the Institute for Materials and Manufacturing Research (IMR).

Education and Experience Requirements

• Required: Candidates must hold a PhD in Physics or a closely related field.
• Desired: Candidates with an established research record, as evidenced by a body of peer reviewed publications and, in the case of applicants at the level of Associate Professor or Professor, external funding and invited presentations, are invited to apply.
• We are seeking candidates who, in addition to building their independent research program, have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring and to building a welcoming intellectual community, in line with OSU’s Shared Values (see below).
