Job Description

The University of Maryland School of Pharmacy is conducting an open rank search for a School Assistant/Associate Professor, non-tenure track, in the Department of Practice, Sciences, and Health Outcomes Research. This position requires teaching, practice, service to the school, campus, and the profession, and scholarly activity as a cardiology specialist. The position is a full-time, 12-month appointment based in Baltimore, MD. In addition to teaching, service, and scholarly activity, this faculty member will provide leadership in their area of specialty and will develop a clinical practice.

The University of Maryland professional campus has schools of Pharmacy, Medicine, Nursing, Social Work, Law, and Dentistry with an excellent established track record of successful collaboration for interprofessional practice and research collaborations.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

This position is responsible to the Chair of the Department of Practice, Sciences, and Health Outcomes Research. Clinical reporting responsibility is to the medical/pharmacy director or designee at the practice site. Teaching reporting responsibility is to the Chair of the Department through the Vice Chair for Academic Affairs.

ACADEMIC RESPONSIBILITY AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

EDUCATION
  • Ability to teach a broad range of topics related to pharmacotherapy and the management of acutely ill patients. Teaching responsibilities will be determined in discussions with the Vice Chair for Academic Affairs.
  • Provide pathophysiology and pharmacotherapeutics instruction in didactic courses in our entry-level PharmD program.
  • Develop and teach in advanced pharmacy practice experiences for pharmacy students and residents at the clinical site.
  • Provide clinical education to students (pharmacy, medicine, and nursing), residents (pharmacy and medicine), pharmacists, nurses, physicians, patients, and patient caregivers.
  • Assist with administration of the postgraduate year 2 cardiology residency program.

PRACTICE
  • Develop a cardiology practice at the partner institution consistent with area of expertise.
  • The clinical faculty member will provide clinical pharmacy services to patients admitted to a cardiac care unit. Responsibilities include:
    • Participate in direct patient care as a member of an interprofessional team.
    • Develop patient care plans in concert with the interprofessional team.
    • Implement new therapies or alternative approaches based on patient needs.
    • Ensure and enforce compliance with established institutional protocols.
    • Actively participate in departmental staff development programs as well as student and resident educational programs.

SCHOLARSHIP
  • Engage in scholarly activity in areas of interest. Scholarship is broadly interpreted and may include the development of innovative pharmacy practices, evaluation of therapeutic outcomes, and implementation and assessment of novel instructional methods.
  • Scholarly activity is required; publication and presentation of work is expected.
  • Scholarly activity may be pursued either independently or in collaboration with other schools, departments, or campus faculty.

SERVICE TO THE UNIVERSITY, SCHOOL, AND PUBLIC
  • Participate in appropriate faculty activities (e.g., faculty assembly, department meetings, faculty committees), professional organizations, and other endeavors is also expected.




Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • An earned Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an ACPE accredited school of pharmacy plus 2-years of post-graduate training (residency, fellowship, or equivalent experience), and teaching experience are required.
  • Eligibility for Maryland licensure is required.
  • Excellent communication and patient skills are essential.
  • Board certification and evidence of scholarship are highly desirable.
  • Applicants with several years of experience are especially desirable.

SALARY RANGE

School Assistant Professor: $120,000 - $140,000

School Associate Professor: $ 140,000 - $190,000

The salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
