Job description

Position Overview

In partnership with Tampa General Hospital (TGH) Heart & Vascular Institute (HVI), the Division of Cardiovascular Sciences, Section of General & Preventive Cardiology, is seeking an academic non‑invasive general cardiologist for a full‑time faculty appointment at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank. The appointment includes attending staff privileges at TGH and affiliated hospitals. Candidates with a strong teaching interest are desired.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in inpatient general cardiology consult service, non‑invasive call & coverage, and read EKGs and stress tests.
  • Opportunity to participate in Echo Lab and call coverage for trans‑esophageal echocardiography, stress test on call, and echo reads (if certified).
  • Participate in outpatient clinics for USF Health.
  • Diagnose and treat disorders and diseases of the cardiovascular system.
  • Perform patient exams, order or conduct diagnostic testing, develop treatment and disease‑management plans.
  • Prescribe medication and coordinate referrals as necessary.
  • Conduct early detection screenings and maintain accurate patient records and charts.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, physicians, staff, and administration.
  • Teach, mentor medical and graduate students, residents, and post‑doctoral fellows; perform didactic teaching and administrative activities.
  • Provide academic advising and related activities; represent the university as appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Doctoral or medical degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service.
  • Meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor.
  • Have expertise in hypertension management or vascular disease to lead a resistant hypertension or medical vascular program.
  • Hold or be eligible for a full, unrestricted Florida Medical License or foreign equivalent.
  • Obtain and maintain a full unrestricted FL Medical License, credentials in the USF Health faculty practice plan, and be a medical staff member in good standing at assigned hospitals.
  • Participate in teaching of residents, fellows, and medical students in clinical medicine.
Additional Minimum Qualifications
  • Board certified or eligible in General Cardiology.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Teaching experience with students or residents, experience with administrative organization/leadership of outpatient practices, and/or clinical research/scholarship experience.
  • Level II certification in echocardiography.
  • Expertise in adult non‑invasive assessment of heart disease, including surface echo, trans‑esophageal echocardiography, stress echo, and adult congenital heart disease.
  • Experience with exercise testing, ECG interpretation, consulting, and attending in a coronary intensive care unit or similar environment.
  • Two years’ experience in non‑invasive cardiology.
