Job Description

Texas State University Libraries is seeking an Open Publishing Librarian. This position provides leadership and expertise in managing the university’s open publishing platforms, including Open Journal Systems ( OJS ) and DSpace. The Open Publishing Librarian will support and grow services for hosting open access journals, books, and other forms of digital scholarship. This position plays a key role in ensuring the accessibility, sustainability, and discoverability of open publishing initiatives through platform administration, user support, and project management. In addition, the Open Publishing Librarian will actively engage campus stakeholders to promote open access publishing and provide education around best practices in digital scholarship, licensing, copyright, and accessibility.

Job Duties

  • Coordinate open publishing services, including timelines, workflows, and communication with journal editors, vendors, and university stakeholders.
  • Administer and support open publishing platforms (e.g., OJS , DSpace), including troubleshooting and user training.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, internal records, and public-facing web content for open publishing services.
  • Ensure compliance with accessibility, licensing, copyright, and metadata standards for digital publications.
  • Collaborate with library units and campus partners to identify, support, and expand digital scholarship and publishing projects.
  • Lead outreach and education efforts to promote open access publishing and research impact.
  • Serve as primary contact for open publishing in the Research and Data Services unit.
  • Stay informed of trends and developments in scholarly publishing and open access to inform service improvements.
  • Participate in professional development, conferences, and service activities to support institutional and professional goals.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
