Job summary

HCA Florida Northwest Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Open Heart OR on a PRN basis. You will provide safe perioperative nursing care across general, robotics, ortho, neuro and more, directing care in the OR while collaborating with surgeons, techs and nursing leadership.

You will evaluate patients pre- and post-procedure, educate families, prepare patients (IV therapy, meds, site verification) and participate in safety protocols. On-call may be required during select hours.

Qualifications

• Current Florida license as Registered Nurse or recognized compact licensure
• Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification or must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients prior to surgery
• Provide patient and family education surrounding the procedure and peri-operative process
• Assume responsibility for patient preparation, including IV therapy, preoperative medications, and surgical site verification
• Participate in surgical site verification, including briefing, time out, debriefing, and universal protocols
• Recognize and respond to patient emergencies
• Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care while applying evidence-based practices
• Be an integral member of a dynamic interdisciplinary team
• Consistently apply the nursing process, critical thinking, and leadership to deliver safe care
• Assess patient condition, monitor changes, and document care provided
• Educate patients and families about medical condition, treatment and follow-up measures
