Job summary

Springer Nature is seeking an Associate Publisher to manage a portfolio of open access journals in our BMC division, reporting to an Executive Publisher. This hybrid role can be based in London or New York to support collaboration with the team.

You will lead journal development, liaise with Editors-in-Chief and societies, and drive growth while ensuring an excellent author experience. The US base salary range is $66,300–$75,000 with full benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree level or equivalent in life/biomedical/health sciences preferred.
• Excellent communication (verbal and written).
• Persuasion and influencing skills including diplomacy and assertiveness.
• Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues at all levels and as part of a team.
• Ability to work on your own initiative and independently.
• Strong time management and organisational skills; ownership of tasks and deadlines.
• Experience developing and maintaining productive relations with researchers.
• Strong technical skills with sharp attention to detail.
• Willingness to travel for the role occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Drive results through portfolio development and management.
• Drive growth and development of open access journals and explore business development opportunities.
• Manage annual targets for submissions, publications and transfers and turnaround times.
• Deliver best-in-class author experience and engage Editors-in-Chief, EBMs and societies.
• Demonstrate resilience in a fast-paced, evolving environment and adapt to changing priorities.
• Resolve pre- and post-publication issues raised by staff, EBMs and readers.
• Gather and analyse information to support data-driven decisions and planning.
• Manage negotiations with external parties using financial and forecasting knowledge.
• Collaborate with colleagues and balance stakeholder needs.
• Keep up to date with changes in the research and publishing industry.
